I choose the preservation visual depicting the problem of pollution. Pollution is

something that effects every resident of earth. The visual conflicts the ideal image of earth in its

full natural beauty versus a polluted oil filled view of earth using two hands. The hands in the

image are reaching for each other and resemble "The Hand of God" a Michelangelo's painting.

Oil leaks over to the pure natural hand showing the effects of pollution destroying beauty. I

choose this visual because I enjoy nature heavily it being my major so the visual reaches out and

allows me to see things put in to stand out to attract me. Parts of the visual used to reach out

are the heavy differences in the colors used to show good vs evil at the hands of man to god.

Preservations intended audience is not gender or racially specific. It is meant to touch

people who are consciously troubled by the effects of pollution on the earth. Rhetorical voices

are used deeply in the visual on many levels. The appeal to fear is used to scare people to change

with the idea that soon the entire earth will look like the black hand and not the green one.

Conceit is used to compare the strikingly different things to each other. An appeal to authority

gives the view a sense of obligation to stop pollution while the two hands resembling the famous

art work appeals to religious obligation.

The preliminary thesis statement I made uses the formula (element) + (in, off, from) +

(text) + (action verb). Opposite colors, depressing invasive darkness and two godlike hands sit

under the word preservation pulling you in to what humanity is capable of doing to the earth

with pollution in preservation.
