Dear Editor,

A not so new international challenge still faces the people of the United States and the

world: climate change and global warming. There are struggles in almost every country of the

world on this issue and our fight against global warming has not been very successful in the past

years. A number of scientific and government organizations have agreed that global warming is

caused by a manmade increase in greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide, hydrofluorocarbons,

and perfluorocarbons. As a fellow citizen and member of the Green Club, global warming has

always been a great concern to us and wish to significantly decrease it as much as we possibly

can. The facts of global warming present humanity with a timeline for action that, if not met in

the short term, will bring punishing effects in the longer term, changing life on the planet as we

know it.

The first victims are and will be people of the developing countries and regions who are

most vulnerable to droughts, rising sea levels and other climate change impacts. So for the sake

of all citizens from all the countries in the world, I step forward to say that immediate action

needs to take place. Its very important that we act now to help spread the world on how we can

prevent and/or be ready for the awful effects. The fact that the universal food cycle relies on

climate change, many organizations still dont seem to care that the atmosphere can only do so

much. A threat to all living things should always be a concern to society, especially when simple

acts done by people can significantly keep the air cleaner.

Although, some people will be more willing to help than others, the more people we can

get that will help us make an impact the better. We have researched and came up with effective

ways to help reduce climate change. Purchasing more local products can help cut down on

emission from shipping and energy that goes into growing, processing, and packaging. Just by

eating less meats can lower the demand of factory usage overall. If youre wasting less food,

youre likely cutting down on energy consumption, even better try growing your own food.

Another option that goes along with food is water. Saving water reduces carbon pollution that is

given off from pumping and heating water. So taking shorter showers or only turning on the

water when you really need it can make the whole difference.

If a person cant afford a gas-smart car, choosing to walk more or picking public

transportation over your own car leads to less driving, less money spent of fuel, and less

pollution in the air. Maintaining your car can significantly improve mileage. Making sure to

change the air filter, keeping the tires inflated, driving less than the limit, and accelerating slower

can reduce the greenhouse gases being emitted into the air. As we know, carbon dioxide is the

most import greenhouse gas that lays in our atmosphere and plants take in carbon dioxide and

release oxygen. If our government could fund or create more organization like Comcast Cares,

we as citizens could have more access to events and gather more people to help plant trees which

would reverse deforestation and drastically slow down global warming.

We now know that man-made climate change is real and that it poses a great threat to the

planet and its inhabitants. We have continued to look for bigger solutions but spreading the

world is also a huge step. Speaking for all citizens, we pursue to create more awareness of this

problem because more and more people are forgetting that our everyday actions will affect us

and our children in the long run. So why not act now and help maintain our planet safe while we

still can.

Sincerely,
Litzy Serna
