Daily assessments were done by brief review.

I would randomly choose a few students

and then ask the students what we had discussed the previous day or questions about what
they had been assigned as reading homework. Notes were checked and a stamp was given to
show they had taken notes. Homework assignments were reviewed in class. Repeatedly the
students were asked to share any questions they had about the material or reading. The
ultimate assessment came in the form of a summative test that I had created based on the
chapter we had gone through. If a student asked a question that was answered in the text
already, I asked another student to answer the question and clarified as needed. With the
exception of the summative test, the majority of assessment was done through homework
assignments and verbal questioning.

I have come to realize this may not be sufficient enough assessment. I feel like it is a bit
lacking. After some thought, I feel like I could have done an exit question for the students to
answer about the material covered in that class. The only negative I saw in this is sometimes I
didnt cover everything I wanted to cover during the class. There were times that Mr. Travis
interrupted me to tell me that the class was about to end so I needed to stop soon. The other
option I thought about was a journal entry as homework, in which the students would make
some personal entries about what we covered in class. I would then read these during the off
block day and make notes as needed. This is just some thoughts I had about possible
assessments.
