GYNECOLOGIST
Overall, Abby is a healthy young adult. Abby does not have any medical history and is
not on any medications or any over the counter supplements. If Abby has any problems, she sees
Occupational Health. It is important that Abby does start to see a Gynecologist. The American
College of Obstetrics and Gynecology recommends that women have their first visit with an
obstetrician-gynecologist between the age of 13 and 15. It is recommended that by the age of 21
a girl has an internal and external examination of her reproductive organs which includes the
pelvic exam (Kids Health, 2017). Many people don’t see a doctor if they are not having
problems, but it is important to follow the appropriate doctors at certain ages to prevent or catch
a disease early on and before it’s too late. The Gynecologist may also give her information and
confidential answers to questions that involve sex, her sexuality, her body changes, and
menstruation that she may not necessarily want to ask her parents (Kids Health, 2017). Talking
about sexuality is very difficult for some people. Some families also don’t talk about these types
of health related issues; therefore, it is important that Abby has someone she can go to, to ask
these types of questions. The health care provider can teach her about pregnancy prevention,
sexually transmitted diseases, and healthy sexual lifestyles. Also, Abby can ask questions
regarding any experienced pain or discomfort and treatment measures (Kids Health, 2017). My
plan for Abby is that she will establish a Gynecologist by January, 2018. Abby can use the
website listed in the care plan for available physicians with her insurance through BayHealth. I
have also listed two Gynecologists in Milford, De. I will follow up with Abby to see if she has
established this physician by January.Plan of Care
NUTRITION
Abby states she does not follow a particular diet and regularly tries to stay active and
healthy. My goal for Abby is that she establishes a diet plan by January, 2018. One may think
they are eating healthy, but it is important to follow a diet and to be eating the appropriate
amount of certain nutrients. Balancing carbohydrates, healthy fats, proteins, fruits and
‘vegetables, and limiting sugars is key to developing a healthy diet plan. Grains are the main
source of carbohydrates. Female young adults should have six servings of grains each day, three
should be whole grains (Swenson, S., Aguirre, N., (2013). Fats should be a part of Abby’s diet
but should be less than thirty percent of her daily caloric intake (Swenson, S., Aguirre, N.,
(2013). For young, healthy adults fats keep our skin healthy, help absorb vitamins and play a
role in brain development. It is important to eat or drink protein which provides support for our
bones, muscles, skin, and blood (Swenson, S., Aguirre, N., (2013). Fruits and vegetables are
also an important nutrient and should be eaten daily while limiting processed sugars. Abby may
also want to consider a multivitamin. ChooseMyPlate.gov has different meal options for eating
the appropriate nutrients and also grocery lists for eating on a budget. I have also listed the name
and address of a natural food store in Milford, De which would have good healthy options for
food. The outcome will be Abby will follow an appropriate diet plan by January, 2018.
SLEEP
‘Abby works night which has her at risk for a disturbed sleep pattem. Abby works her
night shifts but then on days off returns to a normal schedule. Abby does not complain of having
any trouble sleeping at this time, but overtime having a disturbed sleep pattern can lead to some
diseases, Studies show that sleepiness can have a negative effect on attention, concentration,Plan of Care :
reaction time, memory, and mood (UCLA Medicine, 2017). My goal is for Abby to establish a
normal sleep pattern by March, 2018. On average, night shift workers get between two to four
hours less than average (UCLA Medicine, 2017). There are certain steps that Abby can take to
improve her sleep. Abby can take a nap before work (15-20 minutes), eat well, avoid aleohol
three hours before bed, keep a regular schedule each week, avoid caffeine four hours before bed,
wear sunglasses on the ride home to avoid sunlight, the workplace should be bright and cool, and
“white noise” to help sleeping when other family members or noise may be heard outside of the
room (UCLA Medicine, 2017). My goal is that Abby will feel well rested at all times and will
not suffer from insomnia or any other disease relating to a disturbed sleep pattern. I provided a
website for The National Sleep Foundation which provides online forums to discuss sleep and
sleep disorders as well as other community resources.Plan of Care
