Blue (mm/dd/yyyy) 30. LACY My keep people in line. Prave to hire them: referees, WALLACE Mason. Do you know what set of 4 basic rules every society bases it’s code of conduct on? MASON The Prime Directive? A few members of the group CHUCKLE including Lacey. Even Wallace grins at this. WALLACE No, But I’m sure the writers for Star Trek kept these principles in mind when creating the show's ‘prime directive.’ Wallace turns and picks up a thick, dark-covered book. WALLACE (CONT'D) It's the ten commandments, from the Bible. I’m not saying that every nation and country is Christian, just that the basic principles of protecting life, property, family is central to almost every set of laws around the world. And if there was one concept key to all of these laws or rules, what would you say it would be? RUBY Obedience? Blue (mm/dd/yyyy) a1. WALLACE Sure. That's part of it but, it’s more about WHY we should be obedient to these rules. 7 % Love? WALLACE Pretty close Lacey. Something like ‘that. (waite a moment, nothing) It's respect. Respect for God, respect for your parents, respect for others and their property. MASON So that’s why everything’s so messed up. Some guy living in a cave looking after sheep two thousand years ago is going to dictate how we live today?! . WALLACE ? You don't think consideration for others is important? MASON Why? So we can honor parents who beat us? WALLACE If someone’s hurt you, I'm sorry for that. That‘s not right. But. just because something seems outdated doesn’t mean it’s wrong. MASON Like we can’t even say the word: “God"? C'mon! Little kids sing ‘eticks and stones may break my bones’ but the creator of the universe can’t handle his name being tossed around? Ruby has been simmering listening to Mason, frustrated. RUBY I told you. 49 Blue (mm/dd/yyyy) 32. WALLACE Again: it’s about respect. Not. about whether someone can ‘handle it’, but whether we can live better wy lives by respecting others, including a higher power. 4 a C (points at Wallace / Ruby) And who gets this respect? You? Her? The man in the moon?! Because he JM&en’t deserve it. Tempers are flaring, voices rising. WALLACE HOLD ON! Stop! Respect for others obviously isn't always easy. Nor do we always deserve it. But just think: right here, right now. IF we do respect each other, how might THIS discussion be different? &- They're all s\ wick by this and momgfarily quiet. INT. NEW DAY CHURCH / 49 Tom is waiting with gfe Oger parents / guardians for the group to end. The, i Members of the son makes his way over to Tom but does ittle detour for Ngord with Lacey.
