You have probably heard many English-speaking people say hello and hi to other

people. These words are greetings, or exclamations, that you say when you first see
someone. The difference between these two forms of greeting is in formality: they mean
the same thing, but hello is more formal than hi.

HELLO is a word you use to show that you are happy to see or meet someone.

For example: "Hello, my name is Tom and I'm the new kid."

HI has the same meaning, but it is more informal.

For example: "Hi John! How are you?"
