Are the students in your district benefiting from age-appropriate policies,
learning activities, etc.?
Students in Wilson County, unlike some counties, have the opportunity to
wear plain clothes to school in lieu of a school uniform. Especially for early adolescents who actively wrestle with their self-identity and care what their peers think, the ability to choose clothing which represents their personal style is imperative. Fifty-nine percent of students at Springfield Middle benefit from free or reduced lunch, a real commodity for students hail from poverty-stricken homes. Students have the option of trying out for several school sports, in addition to chorus and band, a platform on which students can showcase their natural abilities.
Can you identify any resources that are missing/needed in your district?
In early adolescence, it is noted that students have a preference for
educational activities that involve completing tasks with their peers. Thus, interactions that can be applied to real-life or create authentic scenarios which encourage reflection, analytical thinking and rationalization are important. For this reason, I believe that students at Springfield Middle School would benefit from Implementation of a STEM program. STEM would create the opportunity for students to participate in an array of hands-on, problem solving activities. A STEM program would challenge students thinking and present fun, educational opportunities to collaborate with peers.
