to use

- All of the simple Tengwar are in the correct order on the keyboard.
(Thats not the case with the fonts: Tengwar Annatar, Tengwar
Parmaite, Tengwar Gandalf und Tengwar Quenya.)
- All three of the Elesil fonts contain the same Tegnwar and Tehtar
(vowels), just their (the Tehtars) position was slightly changed to fit
the different Tengwar better as shown in the example below. (Install
the fonts first).
VOWELS
- Vowels, also called Tehtar, are little dots or lines upon the tengwa
(consonant) which stands directly before the vowel in the words order.
As shown in the example (Blue). Just vowels which are used to build
diphthongs, like ai, have a second form: u=U i=I to write those in the
Elesil you have to use the capital letters, so: u=U i=I. A combination
like ai looks in Quenya: Ia, and is written as: Ia. (Please have a look on
the rule ones below.)
- If two vowels stand in a Diphthong-combination, the Tehta-vowel is said
first and the carrier-vowel afterwards !!! But in the Tengwar Elesil its
written in the opposite after the rule: Tengwa/carrier-Vowel before Tehta-
Vowel so the example of ai is written like (Capital i) - Ia, because the I(i)
is the carrier for the a.
- As shown in the example above a Tehta also stands upon a short carrier
when another vowel stands before it. (In the example Blue)
CONSONANTS
- All simple consonants are in the correct keyboard order so you can write
just normally with them. (Please know that not all the consonants we
know are also known in the Quenya-Language. For example there is
no b or no d for its own, just with other consonants in a combination.)
- But there are some special exeptions! Because Prof. Tolkien created own
symbols for several consonants together like ng (@). To write these
characters correct anyway you have to use either capital letters as
well as whole key combinations like alt.+n for nd.
Heres the list of all special Tengwar and their keys:
[ = SHIFT | alt. = alt (OPTION)] (DONT TAP THE +!!! a combination like alt.+s is
only the keys alt. and s.)
ss / | alt. + s | |
ng | alt. + g| @ |
ngw | alt.++g | |
n (2nd) | | |
c | alt. + c | |
nqu | +c |C |
nd | alt. + n| ~ |
nt | alt. + t | |
nw | alt.++n | |
mb | alt. + b| |
mp | alt. + p| |
ld | alt. + l | |
hw | alt.++h | |
hy (2nd) | H | H |
qu |q |q |
rd | alt. + r | |
wh | alt.++w | |
Diph. i |I |I |
Diph. u | U |U |
PUNCTUATION
- The Tengwar font also has an own punctuation which the Tengwar Elesil
includes.
Heres the list:
. |. |. |
, |, | , |
- |- | - |
! |! |! |
? |? |? |
| alt.++, | |
| alt. + , | |
NUMBERS
- The Tengwar Elesil also contains Quenyas number-system (as far as its
known). This contains the numbers 0 - 9, which are just the numbers on
the keyboard. 1=1 2=2
However
Many thanks for reading this tutorial and have fun using the
Tengwar Elesil.
