Lesson idea implementation:
After learning about and becoming familiar with important events during the Civil Rights Movement, students
will create a timeline in partners to sequence the events. This will require them to recognize the significance of
each even and how it affected or created the need for the next event. They will also need to write a brief
explanation of the event and find a picture. Adding a picture will help the students to remember and associate
an image with the importance of the event.
Students should accurately sequence the events using Timeline. Once their Timeline is complete, they should
use it as a resource to write a two-paragraph summary of how these events are connected and their
significance. Having a resource like Timeline to reference while writing will be very beneficial for students who
struggle with writing. Students will then informally share their timelines with the class and discuss.
