Jayakumar, Member Syndicate and Convenor, Syndicate Standing Committee on Examinations was authorised to make specific proposals for the award of Grace Marks, The commission verified the Universi) Orders referred eeepespove and discussed the matter with the JRs, DRs, ARs and other officers concerned, On ‘he bua of the discussions, the commission submitted the following revised norms for he award of Grace Marks in the University Examinations to differently abled candidates/students of PROFESSIONAL COURSES, who have panicipated in sports, Arts, NSS, NCC ‘and, cultural activities. ‘The following shall be the guidelines for the award of grace marks for Professional Courses:- 1. The maximum grace marks that can be awarded to a student in @ particular year for all activities put together should not exceed 25%. 2. The grace marks will be calculated on the basis of the maximum marks of each theory paper, if not specified otherwise. 3, ‘Bhgible grace marks shall be distributed equally on all papers/ courses of an ‘examination. 4, ‘The grace marks shall be given forall papers / subjects in a year irrespective of whether the programme is annual or semester. For Semester programmes, the percentage shall be same as applicable to annual programme 5. Re-distribution of grace marks shall be allowed only in the case of those papers of an examination for which the candidate has passed, i.e. re-distribution can be done from passed papers to failed papers only. Re-distribution of grace marks is not permissible from failed papers to other failed papers for a pass. 6. Re-distribution shall be done only for enabling a candidate to obtain minimum marks required for a pass in a paper/course. 7, Ifa candidate does not secure the minimum marks required for a pass even after effecting re-distribution, eligible moderation fixed by the respective Board shall be awarded to that candidate for a pass. 8. Eligible grace marks shall be given for regular examination of the performing year only. i.e. if the candidate appears for the improvement examination of the previous year along with the regular examination of the performing year, the candidate shall be eligible for grace marks for regular examination only. 9. In the case of semester courses, re-distribution of grace marks shall be effected only to enable the candidates to get a ass in the examination of a particular semester ie. grace marks cannot be re-distributed from one semester to another semester of a particular course / programme, 10, The Performing Year / Academi- Year shall be taken as from 1“ June to 31" May. 11. Grace marks will be awarded initially on the basis of the performance in the respective academic year. 12. The request for grace marks shail be submitted in the tabulation/tapal section concerned within the prescribed time Candidates who fail to submit the request for grace marks within the time limit are liable to remit late fee as prescribed by the University from time to time. However, the request for grace marks received two years after the prescribed time limit will not be entertained on any account. 13. The student shall claim grace marks on or before 31“ May of each performing year. However, NCC “C” Certificate holders and students who participate in Sports Meet at National level shall have to submit the same on or before 31% December of the performing year concerned. "Example: For the academic year 2014-15, claims for grace marks/grace grade points shall be made on or before 31" December 2015.” 14. Grace Marks to NSS certificate holders shall be awarded to the marks of the second year of performance. 15. Grace marks awarded shall ci be considered for ranking and the total marks after awarding grace mark shall be | (one) mark below the marks of the third rank. 16. The candidate shall submit the application for grace marks with all relevant documents in original (returnable after verification) and 2 Photostat copy with due recommendation of the Principal. The recommendation of the NSS Programme Co-ordinator/SPESS/DSS ete. shall be attached along with the cequest. 17.Even though the benefit of zrace marks is restricted to regular appearance only, differently abled candidates who are eligible for grace marks will be awarded grace marks for regular and supplementary chances on production of a medical certificate issued by the Government Medical Board until they pass the whole examination. However, the stipulation of $” minimum marks fixed for the award of grace marks is binding for them also. 1. General norms for the award of grace marks for Professional Courses: 1. The percentage of grace marks eligible to B.Tech candidate is refixed at a minimum of 2% and maximum of 5%. 2. The percentage of grace marks eligible to the candidate as detailed in Table B shall be computed as shown in Table A for the purpose of awarding grace mark. 3. Grace marks shall not ‘be awarded for non-participation of any events in the case of professional courses. «4, Phase marks shall not be awarded to a student if he/she secures less than 207% marks of the maximum marks for the theory paper. (External) 5, Gace marks shall not be awarded to a candidate atthe supplementary/improvement appearances. 6. Grace marks shall not be awarded to a candidate for a pass in practical/viva- ‘Voee/internal/sessional even though he/she fails for the same. 1. Oocninarks shall be awarded only for one area of performance. ie it shall not be awarded cumulatively for arts, sports, NCC, NSS, etc. 8, Goncral rules governing the award of grace marks shall be applicable to those cases which are not specifically mentioned here. 9, Grace marks shall be awarded only to those candidates who participate in sports, arts, RSS. NCC. etc, activities as detailed in Table B and at the rate shown in Table A. The Syndicate vide resolution read as paper (17) above resolved 19 akprovs the proposal submitted by the Commission. As there were some minute errors in the Resolution, se revevice Chancellor ordered on 04/04/2016 to verify the same by the Controller of Peaninations and the proposed corrections were approved by the Hon’ Vice Chancellor on 11/04/2016 exercising power w/s 3.10 (17) of the Mahatma Gandhi University Act 1985 under instruction to report the matter to the Syndicate This University Order will have effect from 2015-2016 Academic Year onwards. Paper wise distribution shall be followed and grace marks will not be awarded to a candidate if he/she secures less than 5% of the maximum marks for the theory paper. 16. Grace Marks will be awarded for both UG and PG Courses. 17. Grace Marks to NSS certificate holders shall be awarded to the marks of the second year of performance. 18, Gree Marks Awarded shall not be considered for ranking and the total marks after warding grace mark shall be 1 (one) mark below the marks of the third rank. 19, The candidate shall submit the application for grace marks ‘with all relevant documents in original (returnable after verification) and a Photostst Copy, ‘with due recommendation of {he Principal. Eligible grace grade points awarded for the regular examination shall be carried over only to the corresponding paper (s) / course (s) of the next immediate supplementary examinations. 9) In the case of semester programmes, re-distribution of grace grade points shall be effected only to enable the. candidates to get a pass in the examination of a particular semester ive, grace grade points cannot bé re-distributed from one semester to another semester of a particular course / programme. 10) The Performing Year / Academic Year shall be taken as from 1*June to 31" May. 11)Grace grade points will be awarded initially on the basis of the performance in the respective academic year. 12) The request for grace grade points shall be submitted in the tabulation/tappal section concemed within the prescribed time limit. Those who fail to submit the request for tgrace grade points within the time limit shall be liable to remit late fee as prescribed by the University from time to time. However, the request for grace grade points received two years after the prescribed time limit will not be entertained on any account. 13) The candidate shall claim grace marks/grade points on or before 31” May of each performing year. However, NCC “C” Certificate holders and students who participate in Sports Meet at National level shall have to submit the same on or before 31% December of the performing year concerned.”Example: For the academic year 2014-15, claims for grace marks/grace grade points shall be made on or before 31 December 2015.” 14) Grace grade points shall normally be given for written examination only. But if the points of a candidate are below the required minimum for a pass in Internal component of the written examinations, the grace grade points can also be re- distributed to that item to get a pass. However, grace grade points will not be re- distributed to Viva/Practical/Lab Examinations to get a pass. 15)Paper wise ~—distribution shall += be_—— followed and grace grade points will not be awarded to a candidate if he/she fails to secure a minimum 5% (0.2 grade point) of the maximum grade points of the ESA of the Course. 16) Grace grade points to NSS certificate holders shall be awarded to the courses of the second year of performance, 17)Grace grade points awarded shall not be considered for the issuance of position certificates. The CGPA after effecting grace grade points shall be 0.1 below that of the Third Position 18)The candidate shall submit the application for grace grade points with all relevant documents in original (retumable after verification) and a Photocopy with due recommendation of the Principal. The recommendation of the NSS Programme Co- ordinator/SPESS/DSS etc. shall be attached along with the request. 19) Even though the claim for the benefit of grace grade points is restricted to regular and one immediate supplementary appearance only, differently abled candidates who are eligible for grace grade points will be awarded grace grade points for regular and supplementary chances on production of a medical certificate issued by the Government Medical Board until they pass the whole examination, However, the stipulation of minimum of 5% (0.2 FSA) of the grade point of the course fixed for the award of grace grade points is binding fur them also. 20)In the case of outstanding and exceptional candidates who failed to appear for the next immediate chance after the regular appearances because of the participation in the events at the National/International level concerned, such candidates are permitted to claim grace grade points for next immediate chance. 21) If a candidate participated in both NSS and NCC and are eligible for grace grade points for both activities, the candidate can claim grace grade points either for NSS or NCC. a. The Commission submitted the same and the matter was placed before the Syndicate. The Syndicate vide resolution read as paper (18) above resolved to approve the proposal submitted by the Commission. As there were some minute errors in the Resolution, the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor ordered on 04/04/2016 to verify the same by the Controller of Examinations and the proposed corrections were approved by the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor on 11/04/2016 exercising power w/s 3.10 (17) of the Mahatma Gandhi University Act 1985 under instruction to report the matter to the Syndicate, ‘This University Order will have effect from 2015-2016 Academie Year onwards.
