Lesson Plan for Elementary Art

OVERVIEW & PURPOSE

Students will become familiar with Grandma Moses and Folk Art while making a piece of artwork to go
in the Chilhowie Apple Festival.

OBJECTIVES

1. Students will become familiar with Grandma Moses background and style.
2. They will demonstrate understanding of style by creating their own art work in her essence.

MATERIALS NEEDED

1. Oil Pastels
2. Construction Paper
3. Scissors,
4. Glue
5. Drawing paper
6. DVD (Dropping in on Grandma Moses)

VERIFICATION

1. Lesson differentiated by lecture and dvd


2. Students will use a variety of mediums to create an artwork depending on their age, and level of
comprehension.
3. Students are practicing technical skills while they assess their work. The story of Grandma
Moses will be told before and after their work.

ACTIVITY

Describe activity that will reinforce the lesson

Day 1: Intro to Grandma Moses, small short lecture. Who


was she? What was folk art?
Students will then be instructed to create a
landscape either by cutting construction paper and
using pastels. Younger students will make an
apple print or use only pastels to make a
landscape.

Day 2: Verification We will watch a short 15 min DVD. Then will


will make a drawing of our memories like
Grandma Moses did. Students will be asked
questions in review for evaluation.
