Ang Pilipinas Sa Loob Ng Sandaang Taon

~Culture
Filipino culture deteriorated. They gradually lost their heritage; they forgot
their writings, songs, poems, their laws, in order to learn other dogmas,
which they did not understand, other conducts, and other esteem towards
beauty. Then there was a sudden backlash, when it happened, they
decimated their value in their own eyes. They became ultimately ashamed
of what they are, for the sake of admiring and praising what was foreign
and unfathomable; their spirit was broken and they eventually gave up.
Religious shows, rites that caught the eye, songs, lights, images arrayed
with gold, worship in a strange language, legends, miracles and sermons,
hypnotized the already naturally superstitious essence of the country.
~Economics
For the liberal Spaniards the ethical condition of the people remains the
same, that is, the native Filipinos have not advanced; for the friars and their
followers the people have been redeemed from savagery, that is, they have
progressed;
Perhaps the country will revive the maritime and mercantile life for which
the islanders are fitted by their nature, ability and instincts.
~Technological
~Political
The former lords who had merely wanted the fear and the submission of
their subjects, fell like withered leaves, and the people, who had no love or
whatsoever for them nor knew what independence was, easily
acknowledge new masters, perhaps hoping to gain something form
innovation.
The government that governs in a country may even dispense with the
press (if it can), because it is on the ground, because it has eyes and ears,
and because it directly observes what it rules and administers.
If the Philippines must remain under the control of Spain, they will
necessarily have to be transformed in a political sense, for the course of
their history and the needs of their inhabitants so require.
