Summary: Secularity is one of the basic postulates of
contemporary democratic societies. The consensus re
garding the essential determination of this conception, , .
or the final implications it has on social relationship,
still does not exist in theory nor in practice. Although **
the notion of secularism is not fully elaborated or de 3 ,
fined, modern society is, not without reason, taken to , . 6.
be post-secular. The relationship between churches and ,
. ,
religious communities is particularly burdened with mi
sunderstanding in post-communist countries including XVIII , XVIII, XIX, XX ,
Serbia, due to twofold tendencies which occur in those
countries. Since both churches and religion communities ,
were oppressed for decades, the downfall of communist .
dictatorship was followed by an understandable need for .
religion to assume its position in society. There are a lot
of contrary opinions and practices regarding the posi : *, ,

, , ,
existing problems and to give solutions for their overco , , ,
ming in the future. , .

Key words: Serbian Orthodox Church, secularism,

post-secularism, religion, politics.
