Iowa Teaching Standards

Standard 6: Demonstrates competence in classroom management.

Criteria b: Establishes, communicates, models, and maintains standards of responsible student
behavior.
Artifact: Job chart
Reflection: Having a job chart in classrooms helps teach students responsibility and helps the
classroom to run smoothly. Posting the job chart in the classroom helps communicate what
students are supposed to be doing, which helps communicate responsible student behavior in the
classroom. CT has the same expectations for every student no matter what and communicates
with the students what their new job is for the week so there is no confusion. CT models what
students should be doing and how they should be acting leading students to act in the same
manor. CT uses the class jobs every day and throughout the whole year because it helps with
student routines, helps the classroom run smoothly, and teaches students how to be responsible.
If a student doesnt do their job, they are talked to by the teacher and dont get put into the next
rotation because they arent being responsible. This is a great classroom management strategy
because it allows students to take control of their learning and to want to work hard so they can
have a job like everyone else.
