Pam and Julie Case Study

Pam and Julie worked at J & Js Supermarket. Pam has worked there since 2007. Julie has
worked there since 2010. Randy, their manager, has a position open for head cashier making
two dollars more an hour. He knows he is expected to give the job to Pam, who has been
working there for more years and is seldom late, even though she is out sick frequently.
However, Juliewho has fewer years experienceis always on time and is almost never absent.

1. What would you do if you were Randy?

I would hire Julie because even if she had less experience, she is there to learn on time and will
be there at the times that a head cashier should be. It will give the other workers reason to work
harder even if they have been there the longest.

1. How should Julie feel if Pam gets the job?

She should feel inspired to be better and be on time so next time she can be promoted. Even
though she will be hurt, but it should strike her that it should help her become a better worker to
the company.

1. How should Pam feel if Julie gets the job?

She should feel proud that her hard work is being paid off. All the ties that she came in early to
work has been appreciated from the company. The others can be hurt but overall she deserved
it more than they did.
