Connections to the poem: Name: Turac SHAKUR ‘Tupac Amaru Shakur (also known as 2pac) was ‘bom on June 16th, 1971 in Brooklyn, New York. He was named after Tupac Amaru (Tupac means ‘shining, serpent), an Incan Indian who was sentenced to death by the Spaniards. Tupac was the son of Black Panther activists Afeni Shakur and Billy Garland. Tupac's family ‘moved from inner city Harlem to inner city Baltimore to inner city Oakland, California as he was growing up. In each new town the family moved to, Tupac tried to fit in and make friends by joining gangs. The result of this was that he was arrested eight times before he turned twenty ‘Tupac defined hip-hop, as we know it today. What ‘made Tupac o special was his enormous talent, the sense that he was ‘real’, and his on-screen friendly looks. Tupac's first big break came when he joined the group Digital Underground as a dancer and roadie. While with Underground, Tupac spent much of his time composing his own poetry and lyrics to launch his own career. In 1992, he released his first album, 2Pacalypse Now. ‘That came year, he also starred in Juice with Omar Epps and Samuel L. Jackson. It was the beginning of a bright acting career. During this time, he also landed roles in other urban films such as Poetic Justice (1993), Above the Rim (1994), Bullet (1996), and Gridfock'd (1996). Despite his acting, Tupac was best known for his music. In 1995 he released Me Against the ‘World and his last living album release came with All Eyez on Me in 1996. As Tupac's fame grew, so did his problems with the law. He had numerous run-ins with the police and was arrested for a variety of different reasons. Tupac was involved ina scuffle while in Las Vegas to see a heavyweight- boxing match between Mike Tyson and Bruce Sheldon. Shortly afterward Tupac was shot four times and, after six days in a coma, died on September 13th, 1996
