oer: BASIC MUSIC THEORY 1. HARMONY- The sound Produced when two notes are played simultaneously. . 2 INTERVAL- The distance between two notes in half-steps. aces Semen 3. DIATONIC HARMONY- Harmony derived from the MAJOR scale. 4. CHORD-SCALE THEORY- For every chord there is one or more scales which can be used for improvisation. OIATONIC HARMONY Diatonic Harmony is based on the major scale. If we play the major scale starting on each of i's 7 tones, we generate 7 new scales or "MODES" of the original major scale, each with it's own tonal color and mood. If we then take each of those MODES and stack the ‘st,3rd, 5th and 7th note, we derive CHORDS which match each MODE. These are called "DIATONIC 7th CHORDS". MODES have Greek names and DIATONIC 7th CHORDS have Roman numerals designating their position in the scale. This is the basis of "CHORD-SCALE THEORY” MOOES- KEY oF "0" (Cua (\MaeT) clam © © &€ & 4 A bie O-1(I-) Odeo € fF G@ A 8 CO € PreyaiaN €7Q-) oa ie € fF @ A 6 @ 0 € PuKeT (WMAET) Flv fF G@ AS C O € F aw) GMinevom $A 8g 9 6 FG 4-7 (Vi-1) Atom § § © 0 € F @ A 8-1hs) (VII-7bs) 6 0 0D € Ff GOA B
