Traditionally, distance education courses lacked face-to-face interaction. What are the
consequences of lacking nteraction in distance education? What can be done to increase
interaction in distance education (online courses) so that the same type of learning can
occur as in face-to-face learning?
Many students are satisfied with the online opportunity and experience, but some
are not. According to research, it depends on student learning style, personality,
and skills. As study show, some students prefer face to face because it gives
them time to ask questions, discuss more, and do activities together with others.
Other students prefer online when they can study on their own and do projects by
themselves. Futhermore, for some that are busy and working, online learning is a
great opportunity to continue their education and gives them time to finish without
compromising their work.
Reflection: I do agree that research depends on students style. I think every
student should decide if they want to do face to face or online distance learning. I
personally prefer face to face. I like to interact with others easier and ask for help
in the classroom. Being in the classroom gives you opportunity to meet people
and get more comfortable. It is easier to do projects and activities in face to face
settings. Once again, my personality and learning style make me more comfortable
in a face-to-face classroom setting.
I will consider this research when I teach students and assign them projects and
homework. I think it is important not to overflow students that are not comfortable
with either of style. I may use combination if I have to. In that case I will
accommodate both students learning styles.
