-Gain further insight into the author of the play and how his life is reflected in the
story

Teaching: Activities (***see note below)


1) Ask whole class: Do we see any similarities to that video based on what we have
done in class the past two days? Any differences? (once students answer, move on
to group work with packet)

2) In groups that I assign, students will complete the Arthur Miller and Red Scare
packet (20-25 minutes)
3) After groups are finished, go through questions 6-12
a) (focus on making the connection to the witch trials, specifically asking
what connections can the students make between the red scare and the
trials) Red Scare= Witch Hunt
i) (There was an attack on filmmakers, novelists, actors etc
similar to how Puritans did not allow such extravagant
behavior/actions)
4) Connect back to EQ Predict: Do you believe this book will reflect society?
How?
5) Go over reading roles (Display on screen) , ask for volunteers, provide character
synopsis
6) Hand out Anticipation Guide-Homework for US Lit and Honors

Closure
Going over Reading Roles, Tell kids that those who are reading should do a little practice
the night before.

Assessment

Having the students connect worksheet and prior knowledge to the EQ. Requires them to
take prior knowledge and connect that to new knowledge allowing them to synthesis
information.
