Paul, Donaldson Earn Opening Round Wins

College Night on Tuesday, Eubanks and Cox/Reinberg in

Action

ATLANTA, July 24, 2017 Main draw play in singles and

doubles began on Monday at Atlantic Station. As the sun began
to descend, loyal Atlanta fans were glued to their seat to witness
what turned out to be a three-set showdown between American
Tommy Paul and South Koreas, Hyeon Chung. Paul, who
earned a spot in the main draw through the qualifying draw,
outlasted Chung 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, but it wasnt easy.

Beginning the match with a long, six-deuce game, both players

used their athleticism to run down drop shots and deft angles hit
by their opponent. Momentum continually shifted through the first
two sets as the opponents had long rallies throughout the set.
Though Chung claimed the first set, Paul quickly bounced back
in the second, winning 6-2.

Both players held serve at the start of the third. Paul claimed the
first break of the set for a 3-2 lead on a laser-like forehand
winner down the line. A pumped up Paul used this as confidence
and the support of the crowd to finish out the set. He made a
point to credit the enthusiastic Atlanta crowd for helping him
keep his energy up through a close and grueling third set.

Paul next plays the winner of Reilly Opelka and Malek Jaziri.

After an almost three-hour rain delay stalling play to start the

day, the BB&T Atlanta Open welcomed the faceoff between
Lukas Lacko and Thomas Fabbiano on the stadium court for the
opening round of singles play in the main draw. Lacko, currently
ranked No. 129, dominated every aspect of the match,
punctuated by big serves and huge forehands to cruise past No.
89 Thomas Fabbiano 6-1, 6-2.
In Tuesdays late match. BB&T Atlanta Open eighth seed Jared
Donaldson advanced to the second round after a 6-3, 6-1 victory
over Ernesto Escobedo. Donaldson and Escobedo, both
American NextGen players at 21 years of age, played two close
sets, but Donaldson prevailed after taking control of the points
with strong serves, good returns, and deep rallies, while
capitalizing on Escobedos struggling serve in the second set.

Tuesday is College Night at the BB&T Atlanta Open. Georgia

Techs Chris Eubanks is in action as is the local college doubles
team of Jordan Cox (Georgia Gwinnett)/Emil Reinberg(Univ. Of
Georgia).
