Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

Philippine basic education has been undergoing series of changes, modifications

and improvement in the curriculum areas. Changes within the educational system have

been constantly implemented by the Department of Education to adopt the Philippine

educational system to the needs and demands of globalization.

The K to 12 Program covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six

years of primary education, four years of Junior High School, and two years of Senior

High School [SHS]) to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop

lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills

development, employment, and entrepreneurship. This is a program wherein the

Philippines adopted from other countries. The program aims to educate students as to

prepare them also in College level.

Humanities and Social Science students must confidently speak English, it is

what is expected to them. However, there are cases that hinders the student to speak

English and makes it more hard for them to interact with their friends, teacher and to

participate in the English class and to deliver public speeches.
