An overview of globalization:
The end of the 20th Century has witnessed the rising importance of globalization
with the formation of economic blocks like NAFTA(North American Free Trade
Agreement), EU(Economic Union), FTAA(Free Trade Area of the Americas),
MERCOSURE, etc. The globalized world is about much more than trade or capital
flows. As globalization is affecting everyone–from nations to businesses,
communities and individuals alike, the winners will be those that are prepared to
benefit from it, not to disregard it.
Effects of globalization on capital markets
The stock exchange is no exception. In reaction to the global technological
advancements in business, the world’s stock exchanges are being forced to
update,
consolidate, and expand their activities. Globalization has affected capital
markets in

1. Deregulation of markets includes eliminating foreign exchange controls,
reducing taxes imposed on foreign investors, relaxing restrictions on the
purchase of domestic securities by foreign investors, the issuance of bonds
by foreign borrowers and the involvement of foreign investment banks in
underwriting bonds and stocks in domestic stock markets.
2. Technological advancements in telecommunications helps in
connecting
dealers all over the world so that orders can be promptly executed. It
transmits real life information on prices, which allows investors to monitor
global markets and assess the impact the information will have on the
risk/return profile of their investments. Due to a lot of investment by
markets and financial services sector in the latest technology, money has
become enormously mobile with the touch of a computer, irrespective of
national borders.
