Mole Gram Conversions

Factor-Label Technique

1. Determine the relationship between the known and the unknown units.
2. Create two ratios from this relationship.
3. Set the given quantity (to be converted) equal to itself.
4. Multiply the right hand side of the equation by whichever ratio cancels out the
old units and leaves you with the old units.

eg. 14.2 mol H2 = _______ g

1. Relationship: 1 mol H2=2.02g

2. Ratios: 1 mol/2.02g or 2.02g/1 mol

3. Set given quantity equal to itself: 14.2 mol H2 = 14.2 mol H2

4. Multiply RHS by ratio: 14.2 mol H2 = 14.2 mol H2 x 2.02g/1 mol

= 28.7 g
