Intelligence Analysis of URDF-3 — Report
on’ Soviet’ Research Program into Radiation
and BDNF GeneTOP
(S) CIA/DIA Intelligence Analysis of URDF-3 Brief Sheet
(s//we) You are being briefed on URDF-3 and the
intelligence collected on the codenamed
GEEBB. 32000 on HUMINT gathered by case officers on the
ground, ve have reason to believe that the Soviets are
using nuclear radiation to experiment on fetuses
2. (S//NE) The goal of these experiments is to stimulate
growth in the hippocampus region of fetal brains. Results
from these tests indicate that radiation affected the
BDNF gene. We do not have sufficient intelligence to
indicate
3. (8//Ne) U-2 flyovers reveal that URDF-3 is located 150 km
west of the town of Semipalatinsk. Further flights are
planned to detail development of the site and any other
indicators of nuclear testing
4. (S//NB) Soviet personnel involved in the program include
Lavrentiy Beria, political head of the Soviet atomic bomb
project. We have intercepted communications that show his
strong interest in the BDNF gene. He has ordered further
testing on fetuses until there are enough case studies on
the BDNF gene to warrant further
5. (S//NE) Based on available HUMINT and GEOINT data, we
believe that Soviet research on the BDNF gene is
connected to the research lab recently discovered
6. (S//NE) We recommend additional resources to pursue
analyeis of the QED Sovict
interest in this research is extremely high and HUMINT
hae shown that it is a valuable program.
7. (S//NE) Until we receive reports on the reason for
interest in the BDNF gene, we reconmend case officers
find additional entry pointe into (NMP labs. Use of the
MASINT device codenamed QED should be granted for
