Justus Lehmann Research Grant 2017

Criteria for the Grant Proposal -

Application must be submitted on the Justus Lehmann Research Grant Application Form and must include a
concise statement of the purpose of the project; anticipated outcomes; proposed budget (showing other sources
of cash and in-kind support); and a letter of support from the sponsoring institution. Please also include your
Curriculum Vitae.

The goal of this project is to increase the period of time that a prosthesis can be used effectively.
Currently the one year span of effectiveness for a prosthesis is not cost effective for developers or the users.
This project will involve many tests with varying alloys and materials to develop a widespread understanding
of the benefits of certain materials over others, in the sense of flexibility of the form. The cause for need of
replacement is often due to the amputees body adapting to the prosthesis. So as their body changes their
prosthesis needs to be able to change as well.
Anticipated outcomes for this project will be: understanding of the usefulness of multiple alloys and
materials as portions of prosthesis, ways of reforming reshaping these materials easily and effectively, and
development of a prosthesis that could easily be adapted to the changing form of the user.
