APPLYING INQUIRY TEACHING METHOD TO INCREASE STUDENTS


PARTICIPATION IN CLASS ACTIVITY ON THE TOPIC OF FACTUAL REPORT
TEXT AT XYZ JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADE IX

There are lots of aspect that can be use to measure the effectiveness of
learning to reach the learning goal. Students participation is one of the aspect that
educators really need to concern about in order to achieve the aim of learning. Based
on the result of observation in Grade IX at XYZ Junior High School, Tomang, West
Jakarta, it shows that there is a lack of students participation, especially during class
activities. For most of the time during the activities, there are only several students
who show enthusiasm to participate actively. This research intends to encourage the
students to actively participate in classroom activities. The method used in this
research is Inquiry Teaching Method. By applying this method, students are expected
to find possible solutions for the problem given through questioning and research.
Furthermore, it will give the students an opportunity to participate actively throughout
the whole activities. The data collected through teachers interview, reflection sheets,
students questionnaire and observation sheets. The result of this research can be
applied to increase the students eagerness to learn and participate actively during the
class activities.
