Subject: Project 2 Technical Definitions and Descriptions

Introduction
In this document are the planning decisions for the completion of Deliverables 2 and 3 for
Project 2. The focus of these deliverables is on the definition of hydraulic fracturing (fracking)
and how it can affect the audience that the information is being presented to.
Extended Technical Definition:
The extended technical slidecast will focus on defining what fracking is for the audience.
Step 1: The term that I will be defining is the process of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking.
This is a term used in geology, my area of study, and is a subject I am knowledgeable on.
Step 2: The audience of my slidecast will be those unfamiliar with fracking, but who are
affected by it; those who consume oil and/or natural gas for their energy needs.
Step 3: Other than defining the term, I will provide an analogy to a relatable process
similar to fracking, blowing water out of pipes. I will also explain briefly an example of
where it occurs.
Technical Description:
In the technical description I will explain the process of fracking more in-depth, along with its
consequences.
Step 1: The process that will be explained will again be hydraulic fracking.
Step 2: The audience will be those who use oil and natural gas to know where it comes
from and what it does to the environment, so that they are aware of the costs and benefits
of fracking and how it works.
Step 3: Visuals will be chosen from online to help demonstrate how it works, and will be
explained fully. One will diagram the process of fracking and the other will show a
potential consequence of fracking.
Step 4: The organization of the document will be in sequential order, following the
stages of the fracking process.

Conclusion:
Both sources will define and describe the process of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, so that the
audience of the general public who consumes gas and oil may know how it occurs and what
consequences it can have on the environment and other factors.
