Woman: Despite those beautiful views and tourist attractions, there are problems
affecting the country. Lets discuss on one of the problems: gender inequality.

Principle: "Why?
Problem - Gender inequality (MDG)
Woman: Our country is now facing the problem of gender inequality.

Women are pressed down and they have less power than men.

Causes:

- Tradition:
- Lack of education (outdated)
- Poverty
Poverty
- North- eastern cities like Kukes, Diber and Shkoder are the poorest cities in Albania.
- Headcount Poverty:
- Kukes: 21.8%
- Diber: 13.0%
- Shkoder: 15.7%
- We cannot identify exactly the area of gender inequality, so we can assume that the
poorest places will have the worst condition of gender inequality.
- Because
1. Low productivity - less income
2. Less access to technology and education
3. No access to contraception - have a lot of children - uneducated mother - dont
know how to take care these children - increase infant mortality rate
4. More violence
5. Early marriage
Effects:

- Boys get more chance to go to school and become educated.

- Domesticated job:
- because there is lack of safe water, women have find and bring safe water to the country
- Women have to do house works, so they didnt get to go out for work or education
- Also, girls are forced into an early marriage.
- Inequality in work: women gets pay less than men (in average women get
paid 18% less than men in urban area)
- Violation in women
MDG
What is MDG?

It is Millennium Development goals from UN to improve 8 areas in each

country.
Countrys solution
- The Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities was made
responsible for promoting gender equality via amendments to the Gender
Equality Act of 2004.
- Albania had tried to use the strategies and plan for gender equality but some
still is a draft law under consideration in 2008.
- Albania had sign to many organization about the gender equality and
domestic violence and create many laws
- Law on measures against violence in family relation
- Law on rape
- LAW NO. 8733 on trafficking in persons
Countrys solution
- National Gender Strategy enhance the gender perspective of public policies.
- In 2016, Albanian companies sign womens empowerment principles to
advance gender equality in business
- Principle 1: Establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality
- Principle 2: Treat all women and men fairly at work - respect and support human rights and non-discrimination
- Principle 3: Ensure the health, safety and well-being of all women and men workers
- Principle 4: Promote education, training and professional development for women
- Principle 5: Implement enterprise development, supply chain and marketing practices that empower women
- Principle 6: Promote equality through community initiatives and advocacy
- Principle 7: Measure and publicly report on progress to achieve gender equality
Our solutions
What should be done to help solve this problem?

1. Macro Level:
- I think that some of the law punishment should be changed e.g. the law regarding rape. It should have a harsh
punishment e.g. pay a lot of fees and get jail for many years.
- Eliminate sexism through education
- Lets students understand about human rights and that men and women are equal.
- Men and women should get equal rate (amount) of salary.
- Give women education and improve citizens life quality.
- Encourage women to report what they think is incorrect through a new agency that specifically made up to receive
report about gender inequality.
- Encourage people to vote for non sexist politician and take gender inequality problem seriously.
- Structuration: people shaped politician, politician shaped citizen.

2. Micro level:

- We can create a training and training center for women and men in each city.
- The program will educate people so they have more knowledge and better attitude or behaviours about gender
inequality.
- We will build the center that women and men can gather together and discuss together about their experiences and
solutions.
- There will be updated information of every news, policies from government or good solution from other countries that
faced the same problem provided.
- Create campaign to empower equality
- We will have an agency to examine the local area for gender inequality, and report to the government. Therefore, we
will not miss any inequality issue and we will be able to solve it in time.
