May, 2017
To Whom it may concern,
Itis my pleasure to write this letter of recommendation on behalf of April Barry. | had the honor of
working with her at Longfellow Elementary during the 2016-2017 school year. During the school year,
as an educational assistant, Ms. Barry supported students and staff in many capacities. She was a math
interventionist, literacy support and lunchroom supervisor. No matter the role or who was involved,
Ms. Barry was always respectful, consistent and willing to support.
‘As a math interventionist Ms. Barry planned for tier 2 and tier 3 groups. Ms. Barry would work both
within classrooms and pull small groups into a quieter location, depending on the level of instruction
being administered. While planning for groups, Ms. Barry was always considerate of who she was
working with. For instance, knowing her student abilities with interpreting data from a graph, Ms.
Barty would create exercises for students to have hands-on experiences with graphs. Not only did she
build their understanding on how to interpret data from a graph, but she developed experiences for
the students to collect data and create their own graphs, developing their background knowledge on
representing collected data. It is very typical of Ms. Barry to create hands-on experiences for students,
her mindfulness of student abilities makes her an asset to education.
Ms. Barry is a flexible person as demonstrated through her support to teachers. She is always willing to
pitch in and help support student learning, For instance, Ms. Barry supports three different grade levels
for literacy. No matter the classroom she walks into, she is willing to support in any manner needed.
One can see her with a small group working on phonological awareness skills through lessons from
Lexia, an online program, or supporting the development of writing skills with students by sitting with
struggling writers and helping them think through their stories in chronological order. Ms. Barry is
great at encouraging students to try their best. In return, students enjoy working with her and feel
supported by her.
Serving as a lunchroom supervisor is a daily role for Ms. Barry. As a lunchroom supervisor, Ms. Barry
keeps lunch hour moving smoothly as four different grade level teams rotate through lunch and recess
breaks. Ms. Barry is able to keep all students following the lunchroom expectations of remaining
seated until called upon to line up for either recess or returns to classrooms. Ms. Barry is firm and
consistent when responding to students no matter the setting.
Ms. Barry always holds students to high expectations academically and behavior wise. She expects
students to be the best people they possibly can and supports with guidance as needed. In return, she
always treats students and staff with respect. It is with honor I recommend Ms. Barry for a teaching
position
Please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Mishel.
