Reflection: Argumentative
For the argumentative essay, I wrote about some problems that immigrants had to
overcome to be living comfortably in the new country. I thought I had written a quite
considerable essay. By submitting the essays proposal, bibliography, and the outline one at a
time prior to writing the whole essay, this helped me a lot in organizing my essay and this made
it a little more less complicated for me to write my essay. In order to finish the essay, aside from
reading the requirement book How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents, I did a lot of research
by reading lots of articles from various websites and also talked to my family members about
immigration, since they were also immigrants and had direct experience about the topic that I
chose.
For me, being a third generation that was born and raised as an American-Thai girl,
growing up in both Thai and American cultures. I was able to understand some of the conflicts
that some immigrants were facing, but some conflicts were beyond my comprehension. Reading
lots of articles and the book had help me a lot in understanding circumstances of immigrants
from various parts of the world. Each family had their own difficulties that they had to overcome
in different ways. Their hardship of transition periods was also varied. Even though, there were
