Oct 31, 17 Children in Poverty Alondra Hernandez

In 2010, more than 1 in 5 children (22) percent lived in families with incomes
below the poverty line, the highest level since 1993; by 2015, this had fallen to 20
percent. Poverty levels among Black and Hispanic children, children living in
single-mother families, and children under five are higher.- Child Trends

During the 1970s children under the age of 18 were more likely to be poor than
adults. I myself was raised poor having the income of $24,000 or less in the year of
2015 for a family of four. Research indicated that children that live in poverty are
most likely to have mental, psychical, and social problems. Not only living in
poverty is bad for health, but this can affect the childs school that can affect the
childs future in life it will be difficult to have a good paying job.

Children that lives in poverty has a higher risk of having a negative health
compared to children that live in the middle class. Many children are born
premature and will later developed many illnesses such as respiratory diseases due
to the environment toxins that surrounds the premature baby and can suffer
mental/physical health problems. They have a risk of depression, emotional
functional, trauma, lack of parental care, parental substance abuse, abuse, behavior
issues, decrease of the ability to learning, etc.

In 2005 Dahl G & Lochner research not only children have a high risk of
developing mental/physical health issues; children that lives in poverty are more
likely to be a dropout in high school. These two-researchers noticed the dropouts
attendance, testing scores, and the high rates of grade failure lead up to the point of
dropping out of high school at an early rate. Later in the childs life it will be more
difficult to be hired or accepted in a good paying job, since now in days
jobs/companies needs people that have more experience in the field or has a
GED/College degree. Half of these dropouts will most likely be in an active gang.

Behavioral or emotional problems are the causes to the child being in active
gang violence crimes in later life. Children are like sponges they will absorbs
anything that they see or experiences. We can stop this from happening to any
children that lives in poverty.
