To Whom It May Concern:

Driven. Thoughtful. And a global thinker. These are just a few of the ways to describe Emily
Mikulski; undoubtedly one of the most talented students I have ever known. I have known this young
lady for five (5) years as her principal. Emily is perhaps one of the most tenacious students I have
come across during my 15-year administrative career. She is seen by both the staff and her peers as
a truly positive force within the school and the community. An extremely confident young lady, Emily
has never used her position, popularity or gifts in any way that could be considered self-serving in any
way. In fact, she is often the prototype other students look to who want to be successful or to do
something truly significant.

Emily is an outstanding student who has enjoyed a very successful career at Tawas Area High
School. She currently has a 3.883 grade point average and has a legitimate opportunity to graduate
in the top ten of her class. She has never failed to make the Honor Roll. What is even more
impressive is that she managed to maintain this very high level of academic success while also
serving as President of her graduating class. She is an outstanding student athlete who has
competed in a number of sports including Varsity Volleyball, Cheerleading and Track and Field. In
fact, she received Academic All-State honors as a member of our very successful Volleyball Team last
year.

Emilys achievements go well beyond the classroom and athletic competition. Emilys career at
Tawas is also one marked by distinguished service. She is a member of a number important
service-oriented groups including: Earth Crew, the TRIO Talent Search Program, Spanish Club, the
Student Senate, the Iosco County Youth Advisory Council, National Honor Society and the Student
Athlete Leadership Team.

Even though Secretary Clinton came up short in her bid to become the first woman President of the
United States, I believe it will not long before someone earns that distinction. Furthermore, I believe
that person would have to have some of the same qualities, integrity and character that Emily Mikulski
possesses. I for one would vote for her without hesitation.

I urge you to give Emily Mikulski every consideration. Any organization that either hires her or choses
her as a recipient will be widely praised for making that decision.

Sincerely,

Peter R. Newman, Principal
