Summary
Entry-Level:
Ticket in the Door: This assignment will be given prior to class and will require students
to learn preliminary material prior to class. This will ask for them define concepts in their
own words and provide examples to ensure they understand the concepts and definitions.
This will be stamped at the start of class and immediately reviewed for students to update
their answers or fill them in if they didnt complete the assignment.
Formative:
Quiz: Students at the very end of the lesson will take a quiz on the three interpreations of
a derivative and will need to know how to compute them using the definition of a
derivative.
Webercise: Students will be have an activity requiring them to search through three
websites for information on derivatives. Additionally, students will have to manipulate a
tool to experiment with how derivatives are formed.
Flashcards: Students will be asked to create flashcards for a series of vocabulary terms
and concepts that are essential for the chapter.
Guided Notes: During lecture, students will fill out their guided notes. This will easily
identify students who are struggling with the material.
Summative:
Graphic Organizer Project: Students will be asked to generate a study poster or Popplet,
summarizing the key aspects of a derivative.
Presentation: In groups, students will be asked to conduct research on a particular field
that uses derivatives. This encourages students to find how math is useful in the real
world.
