However, the mere purchase and installation of such sofiware is not sufficient and may not lead to the desired results, thus leading to concerns regarding cost effectiveness of such implementations. ‘There have been only limited studies that have tried to gauge the cost-effectiveness of investment in project management technologies and software (Mir and Pinnington, 2013). In2005, Thomas and Mullaly’s project management research study used 65 case studies from 14 different countries and studied these organizations for a period of four years. What they found was that the resulting benefits from project management software and technology are dependent upon several factors: the culture of the organization, the implementation-fit of the sofiware with the organizational requirements, and the continuous evolution of project management scope and applicability within the organizational context (Thomas and Mullaly, 2009). To date, considerable research has been done on the use of project ‘management as a corporate tool for success. What researchers need to study further is what factors may give cause for the better utilization (use) of project management sofiware and technologies.
