What My Childhood Tasted Like

Snowballs
My childhood tasted like the sweet taste of a half Pia Colada half Watermelon snowball.
One hot summer day down in Mandeville, Louisiana. My best friend and I were playing on the
beach. We kayaked really far out in the lake. We saw many things like fish and turtles, but we
could only see so far down, so who knows what lurked under our innocent twelve year old
bodies. We spent hours playing in the big red kayak in the water, trying to flip it over so we could
hear each other shriek when we were immersed in the warm, murky water. We let our feet run
along the smooth muddy bottom of the lake as we pulled the kayak back into the sand, only to
flip it over and start all over again. After a few hours,we would have to stop to come back to
shore to put on more sunscreen and let our small arms rest. We would walk along the shore for
several minutes, collecting small seashells to make necklaces and picking up washed up
seaweed, only to throw it at the other. Once the sun got too hot for us to handle, we would go run
back into the water, only to our waists though,we were scared of going any further. We would
pull out our inner tubes minutes later, letting the waves take us as far out as we could swim, then
we would flip them over and swim back to the shore. After the day full of activities,we were
sunburnt, looking like over ripened tomatoes. We packed up all of our things and went to the
small shack up the street. The tables sticky from previous people sitting there before us,spilling
their heavily flavored snow all over the place. We talked about the problems all twelve year olds
were concerned about then, when the next One-Direction album was going to be out, the last
season of Hannah Montana aring, when Justin and Selena would get back together. We were
heavy into conversation when I heard my name called from the small wooden window,
Grace, medium Pia Colada half Watermelon! I quickly jumped up from the table and
wrapped my hands around the cup that was dripping in syrup and ice. I grabbed a straw and a
spoon from the jar on the window sill and returned back to my table. Me and my best friend sat
there immersed in twelve year old girl conversation when we heard our moms call us to the car.
We finished our Snowballs in the back of her moms black Honda minivan singing as loud as we
could to Taylor Swift and showing off our colored mouths. When we got back to her house, we
each took a shower to wash the long day off of us and then turned on Camp Rock. We then put
the air-mattress on top of her bed,and slept just like we always did before, we called it the
Double-Decker Bed. The next day, I left her house in tears. We held onto each other for as
long as we could before our moms pulled us away from each other. I was strapped into the front
seat of the rental car, sobbing, knowing I just left behind a huge part of myself and not knowing
when the next time I could see her was. I cried the whole two hour drive to the airport. I sat on
the two hour plane ride back home, thinking about how much I didnt want to go back to the
dry, unexciting city of Parker,Colorado. When we got home, I could still taste my half Pia
Colada half Watermelon snowball and thought about the next time I would go back to the place
that I am absolutely in love with.
What Are Your Dreams?

My Dream
One day, I dream to be working as a pediatric nurse in the state that has my
heart,Louisiana. I also dream to come home from work every day to my own family, in our own
nice house.
When considering what I can do to make some of my dreams come true, many things
come to mind, but the biggest thing I find the most important is working hard. I have to work
hard the rest of my high school career to better myself as a student and a person. I have to
achieve a 4.0 GPA most years I am there, and do well on all of my assignments. Doing this will
allow me to get into the college I want to go to, so I can learn what I want to. I will have to work
hard during the summers, working a job to be able to support myself once I leave for college and
working my volunteer hours at the hospital. I will have to work hard thought my college years to
achieve things like getting my degree I want and graduating with confidence that I am ready to
go out into the real world to achieve the dreams Ive been working towards for the past several
years. Once I graduate, I will work hard to find and secure a job in a Children's Hospital. I will
work hard at my job to get paid well so I can be able to live in a nice house where I want to live,
and to be able to support my family.
I will need the help of several people to achieve my dreams. I will need the help of my
teachers so I can excel in my work at school and assure that I am going to get the grades I need
to get into my future schooling. I will need the help of my friends and family to motivate me and
help me through things when times get tough because there are always going to be obstacles that
are going to try and keep me away from my dream, but with the love and support from my
friends and family, I know there is nothing that could keep me from doing what I love, no matter
what I have to do.
All in all, I will believe in myself because I know I have the potential to be an amazing
student, nurse, mother, wife, and person. I also know that I am a kind-hearted, open-minded girl
who has a lot to offer to this world, and I have just started showing everyone my true potential. I
am excited to learn more about myself and others around me on my path to my dream, and in a
few short years, I will be in college and I will be one step closer to the life I have dreamed of as a
little girl.

Bucket List Reflections:
Travel:
I chose to put these things on my bucket list because I think it is important for an
individual to see beyond where they live. Seeing different parts of the country you live in can
really open your eyes and help you realize how big this world really is. Going to different cities
and doing different activities and meeting new people can help you explore the different cultures
of your own country, and maybe you will find a place that you would potentially want to make
your home if you arent happy where you are in the future. I think it is also important to travel
outside of the country weather this is studying abroad in college or traveling somewhere on your
own time. Traveling to new countries opens so many doors for you. You can try new foods, learn
a new language, see things youve only ever read in a book or seen on the internet, meet new
people, and explore other cultures. I also think it is fascinating when you speak to other people
from different countries to hear about what they think America is like, what happens there, and
what its people are like. Overall, I want to travel to places Ive never been before, and I want to
explore and make memories.
Job:
I know I will have to have a job no matter what in my life, but I want to have the job I
want. I want to be a pediatric nurse when I am older because I love the thought of working with
kids every day. Being around kids makes me happy and to me, adults just complain and are
gross, so kids are the way to go for me. I already spend most of my free time with kids now, and
I truly believe it would be a blessing to spend my day with kids helping them feel better and
putting a smile on their faces. I also want to be good at what I do. I want to do something
amazing in my career that will make me well known. I dont know what that is yet, but I know I
want to do something that will change the way people look at me when it comes to my career. I
want to do something that will impact the world I live in whether that is something big or small.
Personal Development:
I know who I am, but we all change all the time. Changing is not a phase, we will never
grow out of constantly changing. All I know is that because I am going to keep changing, I want
to change for the better. I want to keep personally growing to become a better person. Ive
always struggled with self-confidence and this is something I have been struggling with for a
long time. I am still trying to figure it out, but I know this is not something that I am going to
outgrow. We all are self-conscious about something, and I hope that over the years I can see my
true potential and keep gaining little bits of self-confidence every time I overcome an obstacle or
do something I am proud of. I also want to improve on forgiving others. Everyone messes up
sometimes and I am someone who is very short tempered, but I dont let it show when Im mad
or upset with someone. There are some people who just dont deserve your forgiveness, and
although I learned this the hard way, Im glad I learned at 15 instead of 35.
Connections and Relationships:
After High School, I know I am not going to be friends with most of the people Im
friends with now and I know I will never see most of these people again. This is why I want to
go to a High School reunion. I want to do this at some point in my life because I want to
reconnect with people who helped shape my childhood and I want to reconnect with people who
I made many memories with. I want to connect with the people who held my hand through the
hard times. I also want to reconnect with old friends when I am older because I have lived many
places and I think it would be really nice to see some of the people who I havent seen in several
years, especially 5-10 years from now. I want to be able to reconnect with my best friends from
high school because they are the only reason I am getting through the hard times life throws at
me. I also think it would be fun to reconnect with old friends to make more memories.

Personality Test
According to the test I took I have a Consul personality type. I would agree with this
because Consul personality people are very people oriented which I agree with. I thrive on
interactions with other people. I get a lot of my happiness and energy from being around people.
This does not mean I am a total people person. I would say that I am nice and friendly to those
who I am not very close to, but like everyone, I have a handful of people I cannot stand to be
around due to their negativity or their actions. I have my people who I know I can go to when I
am happy or sad because those are the people that make me, me. and that genuinely make me
happy. The website also said that people with my personality type are the people who lead the
group, I 110% agree with this. A perfect example of this would be our We Built This City project
from last quarter. I took the lead in my group of 3 and assigned each person a role and a part of
the project they were in charge of. This was very very helpful in the outcome of the project and I
am glad that I was able to step up and take lead. My personality type is also considered the
people pleasers. I agree with this because I really am. I am a total pushover and I hate saying
it, but thats how I am, I hate saying no. I am really trying to work on this because its not good
for me to put others in front of myself and I would say I am improving. I am also the type of
person to be the kind of person that loves to help. I am always willing to drop what I am doing to
help someone else whether that is in school or in a parking lot or at home. I am also the kind of
person who takes responsibility seriously. I realize that when someone gives you a task, they
give it to you because they trust you and think of you as someone who will get it done, and if you
dont take this seriously, that person then thinks less of you and might not even ask you to help
them out again. This is where my people pleasing aspect comes into play because I love to help
others and make everyone happy, and when I do favors for others, it reflects on me positively.
Although my type of personality is usually always running around trying to keep organized and
pleasing everyone, we still find time to stop and chat and have fun. On the weekends you can
always find me hanging out with friends or at some social event. I love this aspect of my
personality because it makes it really easy to make new friends. For example, I have moved to 5
different states in my life and every place I have gone, I have made a friend right away. I am
thankful for this part of my personality because I am honestly pretty introverted unless I am
really comfortable with my surroundings and the people in it.
Some things I would disagree with after reading my summary would be that I like the
spotlight. I can talk in front of an audience and funny enough that is one of my favorite things to
do, but I always get really nervous right before I speak to an audience and I really hate talking
about myself for an extended amount of time and that's where my disagreement comes in
because I dont like the spotlight on me for a long time when I am talking specifically about
myself. I also dont like being put in the spotlight because I did something good or presented
something really well. I believe that if you do something good it shouldnt be made a huge deal
because the way I was raised, you just do nice things and you shouldn't expect anything in return.
When you do kind things, it should be out of the kindness of your heart, not just for attention. I
would also disagree that I am the one planning the social events I go to. I am usually the one who
gets to asked to hang out. I also am not big into the idea of planning parties or gatherings or
things of that nature. I like attending these things, but the way I see it is why spend time planning
for something when someone already has? I also disagree with the statement, ..they think
everything is their thing. I dont take credit for a lot of things I do because I dont like being in
the spotlight and I dont want to hear others judgements or praises.
Overall I think this survey was a good 50:50 split of who I am and who Im not. I will
agree I am pretty assertive. I would also agree I feel more than think, this was a big take away I
got from this test and I feel that this is a good thing so Im not too headstrong, but then again, I
get hurt really easily by others actions and that's where feeling more than thinking backfires on
me. Although it can get in the way sometimes, I am thankful it is like this because I used to be
the complete opposite and I by far like feeling more than thinking. I used to overthink to much
which made my life much more difficult than it needed to be. I would over think what people
said, how the homework should look, things like that really dont matter. I would also agree with
myself being more observant than intuitive because I am not good at doing things off of a whim
without any rhyme or reason. Lastly, I strongly agree with the top statistic about myself in the
picture above. I am in the middle of being extroverted and introverted. I am really outgoing if I
am comfortable with the circumstances, but if i am stuck in a situation where I am uncomfortable
with my surroundings I will not say one word to anyone. I am glad I am the way I am because I
feel it adds a lot of balance in my life and helps me stay out of trouble.

Meeting My Other Half
When I was 13 years old I moved to Parker, Colorado from a small town outside of New
Orleans, Louisiana. I was not very happy. I have lived here for almost 5 years now and I still
dont love the idea of living here. Getting through middle school was hard. Girls are mean and
girls are especially meaner when your the new girl. Coming in halfway through the school year
was hard because everyone had already found their people. The coming years I had made friends
but they werent real ones. People come and go and theres nothing I can do about that. The last
day of 8th grade was a blessing for me. I got to leave everything behind and finally start fresh,
like everyone else, for the first time in my life. I got through my first quarter of my freshman
year with friends that I still have today, but my connection with these people just didnt feel
natural. A few weeks after we got back from fall break I was working with my group on the big
project we had for that quarter in our Spanish classroom. This girl, who was wearing jeans, a tan
shirt, and glasses walked in. If Im being totally honest she kind of looked like a lion. I was
working on putting together my children's book I had made for spanish class when she just sat
down next to me. She introduced herself as Addison, and we just started talking. It was the most
natural thing. We were together for the rest of the day. On that first day we were friends we had
already made several inside jokes. At the end of the day when the bell rang, we exchanged
numbers and we texted all night. Since that day on, we have become inseparable. We tell
eachother everything, the good and the bad, because we both know the other will go beat up the
boy that hurt the other, or we know that the other would laugh her head off about something that
happened the previous night. I have never had a connection like this with anyone else in my life.
Everything is so natural with her, and she gets me. She can know by taking one look at me how
Im feeling and what Im thinking. She is very honest with me and I appreciate that because not
many people have the courage to tell you that the boy you like is rude or that the shirt youre
wearing today makes you look homeless. She also gives me the best advice when things get bed.
She is honest with me and will tell me exactly what to do without sugar coating it. She holds my
hand and stands strong with me during the hard times and when everyone else leaves I know she
will still be there right there next to me, no matter what people are saying or telling her, and I
value this more than anything because there arent many people like that out there. The day I met
my best friend is a watermark event in my life because no matter the time or place, I will carry
our memories with me wherever I go. I love my best friend like a sister, and even though we may
fight sometimes, we come out stronger on the other side and I honestly dont know where I
would be without her. She has impacted my life in so many ways, and she has changed and
shaped me into a better person. To this day I am still not happy to live where I live, because my
heart will always be down south, but I am glad I am unhappy in a town with someone that makes
me happy.
