Abstract:

The objective of the project was to design a flat plate collector. The methodology was to design
durable, light weight and fully operational flat plate collector without any compromise on the
quality. The operational characteristics of all the components of collector were discussed in
detail. The terminology involved was emphasized and heat transfer analysis of each component
of collector was performed. Numerical approach was utilized to perform necessary calculations
regarding the efficiency of flat plate collector. The design was calculations based and the data
utilized was in accordance with ASHRAE standards. The materials were selected based on
thermo-physical requirements for optimum functionality of each component of collector. 3D
modeling was performed on AUTOCAD based on design specifications and chosen materials.
