BP has been investing in Vietnam since 1989
and is represented in the upstream by BP
Exploration and in the downstream by BP Oil, BP
Solar, Air BP and BP Chemicals.
In late 1992, BP embarked on an exploration
program in the Nam Con Son Basin, located
some 370 km offshore Vietnam. This resulted in
the discovery of the Lan Tay and Lan Do gas
fields located in licensed Block 06.1. Later, BP
discovered further reserves in Blocks 5.2 and 5.3
namely Hai Thach, Moc Tinh, Kim Cuong Tay
fields.
Since then BP, PetroVietnam (PV) and other
foreign partners have worked together in the
USD 1.3 billion Nam Con Son Gas Project to
successfully develop the gas reserves in Block
06.1. As the gas lies offshore, a 400 km pipeline
is constructed to transport the gas to the Phu My
Power Complex located south east of Ho Chi
Minh City - the largest thermal power
development in Vietnam. A gas terminal has also
been built at Dinh Co, Ba Ria Vung Tau
Province to process the gas before it is
dispatched to the power plants. First gas is
expected by the end of 2002.
BP Oil is actively investing in Vietnam through a
joint venture agreement with Petrolimex called
BP Petco Ltd. BP Petco has built and operates a
50.000 ton/year grease and lubricant blending
plant and has a growing share of the
Vietnamese lubricants market. Additionally, BP

Air is a major fuel supplier for Vietnam Airlines
outside of Vietnam.
BP Solar has been growing its activities towards
the aim of being a total solution provider. In
Vietnam solar modules have been supplied for
communication, vaccine refrigeration, marine
navigation aids and BP Solar is currently
working to bring power to people in remote areas
through infrastructure development

Petrovietnam's activities
Petrovietnam, established on September 3,1975, is Vietnam's state oil company, under the Prime
Minister, operating in all petroleum areas from exploration, production, import & export of crude oil and
material, equipment, to storage, transport, service provision, processing and distribution of petroleum
products.
To date, Petrovietnam has produced more than 100 million tons of crude oil and associated gas from
fields on Vietnam's continental shelf, contributing an important share of hard currency to the State's
budget. Petrovietnam's strategy is to become a strong corporation on a par with other regional petroleum
corporations and capable of competing on the world market. Petrovietnam is making efforts to overcome
challenges and difficulties to achieve further successes.
With a series of large projects in its strategic development frame works to 2005 and to 2010,
Petrovietnam wishes to further expand is cooperation with foreign petroleum companies, diversify
investment forms, and increase cooperation and investment efficiency with domestic and foreign
partners. Petrovietnam has learned experience and prepared resources for self - investment in some
areas, with international petroleum companies to conduct exploration, production in other potential areas,
such as South - East Asia, Middle East, Africa and South America. Petrovietnam together with ASEAN
region partners is working on a trans - ASEAN gas pipeline network project, enabling gas import and
export to balance each country's needs.
Petrovietnam encourages foreign companies to invest under different form in open, off - shore and
inland blocks, especially deep water, remote blocks and together with Vietnam's competent authorities to
create favorable conditions for foreign petroleum companies to increase investment efficiency in
Vietnam's petroleum industry.

Tnh n nay, Tng Cng ty Du kh Vit Nam khai thc c hn 100 triu tn du th v kh ng
hnh t cc m thuc thm lc a Vit Nam, gp phn quan trng tng phn thu ngoi t cho ngn sch Nh
nc. Mc tiu chin lc ca ngnh Du kh Vit Nam l tr thnh tp on kinh t mnh ngang tm vi cc Cng
ty du kh trong khu vc v c nng lc cnh tranh trn th trng quc t. Tng Cng ty Du kh Vit Nam
ang n lc phn u vt qua nhng th thch, kh khn t c nhng thnh tu to ln hn na.
