Salary: 30,738 - 37,768 per annum (pro rata)

Hours: 1.0FTE (part-time working will be considered)


Duration: 3 months. (To start Jan 2018)

Public Programmes Team

The Public Programmes Team is a not-for-profit, NHS-based organisation, based in Central


Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and working in partnership with the
University of Manchester. We advise on, facilitate and deliver high-quality patient and public
involvement and engagement (PPIE). Our aim is simply to involve and engage people from all
walks of life in biomedical and health-related research.
Our strategic focus areas:

Experimenting with arts-led approaches; innovating across engagement and
involvement
Delivering gold standard evaluation and research informing a continuous cycle of

THE ROLE

Overall purpose of role

To design and develop an innovative public engagement project that raises awareness of skin
health and dermatology research in Manchester.

Main responsibilities

Lead on the development of a public engagement dermatology project.


Work closely with senior leaders and researchers from the Dermatology department,
patient groups and the Public Programmes Team to scope and develop innovative and
creative public engagement.
Maintain and manage relationships and partnerships with key personnel, stakeholders
and partner organisations including patient led groups.
Ensure effective communication about the project by working with the relevant
communication teams
Deliver activities to meet deadlines and targets
Evaluate the process and the impact of the project
Manage day-to-day budgets
Be flexible in working location and out of standard office hours (evening and weekends)
when necessary
Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required contributing to the wider
work of the Public Programmes team
PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential knowledge, skills and experience

Educated to degree level in biology, biomedical science, social science or related subject
Significant experience of working in public engagement, either as a practitioner, or within a
research institution or scientific organisation including developing and delivering
comprehensive programmes
Committed to involving people and patients in research
Experience of developing creative projects
Experience of working with patients and / or members of the public
Experience of working in partnership and managing relationships with a range of different
organisations / institutions and professional groups
Excellent interpersonal skills, with experience of communicating effectively with people at all
levels.
Experience of managing projects and day-to-day budgets
Experience of communications, especially marketing and media
Experience of event management
Assertive and self-confident - able to build relationships and work effectively with a variety of
personalities
Enthusiastic and motivated a self-starter
Excellent organisational and time management skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Good problem solving skills using imagination and initiative
Ability to work under pressure, whilst maintaining attention to detail
Flexible and open
Reflective and open to feedback
Able to work autonomously, but recognise limitations and seek appropriate help when

Willing to travel and work across hospital sites in Greater Manchester

Desirable knowledge, skills and experience

Knowledge of the breadth of approaches in public engagement, and existing relationships


within the public engagement sector
Experience of working with marginalised groups and/or under-served audiences
Experience of commissioning
Familiarity with social networking platforms
Experience of facilitating events and discussions
