Do it yourself Problem/Solution Essay:

There is too much / There are too many ___FASCISTS___.

If you were __THE PRESIDENT OF THE ITALIAN REPUBLIC__ what would you do?

15 young men break into the Department of Political Sciences armed with bats,
belts and helmets and attack four students belonging to the Departments left-wing group.
This didnt happen 80 years ago, but it happened yesterday, 16th March 2009. It was
obviously a typical fascist team-attack with the aim of frightening and shutting left-wing
students up.

Although fascism is strictly forbidden by the Italian Constitution, a lot of things that
can recall the 20 years of fascist dictatorship have happened lately in Italy. Unfortunately,
things such as racist or political attacks are nowadays common in Italy, and in Rome in
particular. All this has happened since the right-wing mayor G.Alemanno was elected in
April 2008. And it is not surprising, because Alemanno has been himself a militant fascist.
When he was elected about a year ago, a lot of Roman citizens even went to the
Campidoglio and saluted him with the fascist salute!

If I were the President of the Italian Republic, I would take advantage of my power
in order to actually abolish fascism. I would make every Italian citizen respect the Italian
(and European) Constitution, that clearly states: Italy is an anti-fascist country. Then, if I
were the President, I would send to prison whoever supports fascist ideas, including
politicians and people working in the Public Administration.

To sum up, I cant definitely tolerate fascist ideas in my country, because Italy
belongs to the European Union and countries belonging to the EU deny fascism at all.
Many Italian politicians, such as Borghezio for example, actually believe in fascism and
represent all the Italian people in the European Parliament. Sometimes I feel ashamed of
being an Italian nowadays.
