been reduced. Alternate bass chords may have been omitted. For instance the chords "A/C#" or
"A/E" may have been omitted. In this case, you may use the chord diagram for "A" and it will
still sound fine.
In some songs different chord variations appear with different upper extensions. In these songs
the fretboard diagrams for the upper extension chords like "Am13" or "Am9" may have been
omitted. In this situation you can play "Am7" and it will sound fine. For instance, if both
"Am13" and "Am7" appear in a song, the 13th chord will often be omitted in favor of the 7th
which can be substituted for the 13th chord. This same principal also applies to fretboard
diagrams for add4 chords, sharp 9ths, and flat 9ths.
