Title: THE SHIP OF THE DESERT

Assalamualaikum and very good morning to the honourable judges, teachers and friends. Today, I
am going to tell you a story about “ The Ship of The Desert”. Do you know who was called as the
ship of the desert? Yes, that is the camel.

One day, a mother and a baby camel were lying around. Suddenly, the baby camel asked.
“Mother, may I ask you some questions? Mother said, “Sure! Why son, is there something
bothering you? Baby said, “Why do camels have humps? Is it we use this hump to store water?”
Mother smile and said “Well son, actually we do not store water in our hump but we store fat. We
use the fat when we have no food in the desert. We store water in our thick skin. We can get water
from there when we felt thirsty. We are known to survive without water and food for a long time in
the desert.”

Baby said, “Okay, then why our legs are long and our feet are rounded?” Mother said,
“Son, obviously they are meant for walking in the desert. You know with these legs I can move
around the desert better than anyone does!” Baby said, “Okay, then why are our eye lashes long?
Sometimes it bothers my sight”. Mother with pride said, “My son, those long thick eyelashes are
your protective cover. They help to protect your eyes from the desert sand and wind”.

“Ok mother, another one more thing. Why our lips are tough and thick? It’s make me looked
weird!” The mother smile again, “Oh dear, with this thick and tough lips we can eat dried thorny in
the desert.”

Baby after thinking said, “I see. So the hump is to store fat when we are in the desert, the
long and round legs are for walking through the desert and these eye lashes protect my eyes from
the sand and wind. Then what in god’s name are we doing here in the Bukit Gambang Safari
Park!?” Let’s go back to our home, the desert! Come mother let’s go back to our home…
