How to Create DJVU Files

1. You need to download DJVU Solo to create DJVU files.

Goto: http://djvu.org/resources/

Download & then Install DJVU Solo

2. From Start Menu
All Programs
LizardTech
DJVU Solo

This brings up the DJVU Solo Programs

There are two ways to create DJVU files.

1) From a set of already scanned files

2) Directly from scanner

We shall deal with the first only

Creating DJVU from already scanned image files

1. After DJVU has started,

Goto: File
Open

Now an “Open” Dialogue Box will be displayed, with DJVU file type as default selection

Change it to “All Supported Image Files”

2. Go to the specified folder, where the scanned images are stored

3. Select the first page of the Scanned Image set.

The file is added to the DJVU Collection, and you may get a screen as below.

4. Now, rest of the image files has to be added.

Goto: Edit
Append Page(s)

(The file type has to be change at the bottom of the dialogue box as done before)

If the scanned images have alphanumeric filenames such as Scan001, Scan002 .. sorting by
name may result in improper sorting like above.

It can be corrected by sorting the files using “Picture Taken on” or “Modified”

Perform multiple selections of files (in a reverse manner)

• Goto the end of the file list, and select the last file
• Then, Holding the “SHIFT” key, select the second file

If the selection is non-contiguous, make sure that the selection is made in reverse, so that the
file names appears in the ascending order in the field below.

Then, Click “Open” ;

It may take some time to load all the images to the DJVU Document.

5. Then, the next step is to encode the image files as DJVU.

You will get two options: Bundled and Indirect.

Choose “Bundled”.

6. Select the Path where the resultant DJVU files must be Saved

7. You will get the next “Compression Dialogue Box”

Scanned: Default Scanned Images

Clean: Scanned Images which have been cleaned and processed

Photo: Photo Quality Images

Bitonal: The File is encoded in Monochrome.

Resolution:

Usually 300 dpi is the typical resolution used to encode ebooks

Adjust the DPI, so as the control the size and quality of the file.

After this, the encoded file appears in the given location.

8. Open the encoded DJVU file using a DJVU viewer.

Exporting DJVU as PDF

The DJVU file can be exported as PDF view DJVU Libre Viewer.

Goto: File
Export as

A Dialogue Box as above can be seen. The default option is select, but it can be changed into
various other formats

You can control the Size and Quality of the PDF, by modifying the Resolution and JPEG
compression.

Bitonal Compression, forces a Monochrome PDF.
