Cast Iron Backup Ring for 2” BTR Pressure

Packing Seal Rings
Ariel identified an intermittent manufacturing issue with segmented cast iron backup rings used in 2-inch rod
BTR seal ring sets. The issue affects ring flatness and can prevent packings from sealing properly. Using
affected backup rings can cause leakage with new seal ring sets at startup and increased leakage later.
This manufacturing issue affects rings in rebuild kits and ring sets installed in new cases prior to March 1,
2017, when corrective action eliminated the issue. Not all the cast iron backup rings are affected, but to
ensure ring quality, Ariel will provide replacement backup rings for Table 1 part numbers shipped from Ariel
prior to 3/1/2017. This includes ring sets in rebuild kits as well as rings installed in purchased packing cases.
