2nd Semester AR Expectations Amendment

Purpose:
individual reading is for students to select books they would like to read in order to build
fluency, vocabulary, and background knowledge.

Expectations:
1. AR levels are determined on the most recent MAPs assessment Lexile score.
2. Students must get points from books that are within their AR reading level or higher. In
general, most book below 5.0 are not accepted.

3. Students are expected to read weekly at home. Reading recommendation is


approximately 20 – 30 minutes per day or 100 – 150 minutes per week.
4. Books must be approved by the teacher if the book is not in the student’s AR level.
5. Students are expected to receive 12-points per quarter.
6. Students will be expected to have a book to read every Friday.
A. No book the first time will result in a warning and parents will be notified.
B. Second time will result in a 20-minute reading detention.

Grading:
1. AR tests will be counted as a 50-point test score in the grade book.
