What’s the difference?

In the Legal system we have many different types of professionals. Legal

professionals develop, study and apply law. I have chosen only a few of them (10) in order
to compare them and these are:
 Arbitrator and mediator,
 Barrister,  Legal secretary,
 Judge,  Notary,
 Law costs draftsman,  Paralegal,
 Legal cashier,  Solicitor.
 Legal executive,

I will describe each one and by doing that I will illustrate the differences and
similarities between them. The description is important due to understanding its
qualification.
Both the arbitrator and mediator have similar preoccupations. For example they both
are non-judicial and have alternative ways to resolve disputes, without going to court.
Barristers, judges, legal executives and solicitors go to court. Judges, arbitrator and mediator
stay neutral, which connote that they will not take sides. They reach a decision after hearing
from both sides of the dispute.
Barristers deal with clients in higher courts and also qualified solicitors advocates.
Barristers present a legal argument to judges, magistrates and juries. Solicitors and barristers
can be appointed as judges. Law costs draftsman represent a firm’s client and in some cases
they can represent theirs clients in court when there is an issue over cost. Legal cashiers deal
with the financial position of a firm/client and they keep the solicitors informed. A legal
executive through vocational training can become a solicitor. Still they can have clients of
their own and can represent them in court. The biggest difference between the solicitor and
legal executive is that the training of a legal executives is narrower. They both have studied
to the same level, but the legal executives have specialized in a particular area of law and
completed fewer subjects in general.
Legal secretaries help solicitors, barristers and the law courts by providing secretarial
and clerical support. And a paralegal is somewhat similar to legal secretaries because they
also research and draft documents but the difference is that they can attend the clients
meeting. Paralegal help and assist lawyers in their work and do some of the same work as
lawyers but do not give advice to consumers of legal services. And the obligations of a
paralegal is different according to the type of firm and practice are that he works. They may
prepare reports, to write contracts, mortgages, prepare income tax and other financial
documents.
Solicitors work in many various areas of law and give many different services. They
are very confidential and in direct contact with their clients in order to support them and to
give them expert legal advice and assistance in their specific situation for example: buying
and selling houses, drawing up will, promoting business, protecting of ones rights by
advising them of their rights, ensure them that they are treated fairly by public and private
bodies, supporting the community by offering free help to those who can’t pay for the legal
services. They can represent clients in the lower courts (Magistrate’s courts, County Court
and tribunals) and with the proper training they may represent the clients in higher courts
(Crown Court, High Court, Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court).
