SIMS inaugurated its 17th year MBA batch on 02nd August,2017. Dr.B.Sudhakar,Director of SIMS.
welcomed the future managers. Shri.7.P. Ramachandran, Managing Trustee & Secretary, Sankara
Educational Institutions, rendered the presidential address, Smt.Sandhya Ramachandran, Joint
Secretary, felicitated the gathering. Ms.Nithya Ramchandran,Deputy Joint Secretary, delivered a
motivational and an aspirational message to the students. Dr.H.Balakrishnan, Principal, Sankara

Bridge Course _
A Bridge course was planned and conducted for the | MBA students on 11.08.17. Mr.Natarajan,
Business Consultant from Coimbatore emphasised the importance of Entrepreneurship and the
characteristics of Entreprenuers. He also shared the examples of the entrepreneurial journey of
few successful entrepreneurs of Coimbatore. The aftemoon session was handled by
Mr.M.Senthil Kumar, Architectural Sales Manager, Gujarat Guardian Ltd., Chennai. He was
sharing the current management trends followed in the corporates and conducted various
management games to make the session more interesting and participative.
Get Invigorated
Guest Lecture on Stock Exchange & Share holdings was conducted by Mr. Gowtham
Damodharan on 4th August, 2017 for the students of SIMS. The session provided the
knowledge on Share trading in India, the functioning of the Stock exchange and its processes
Guest Lecture on Career Guidance was conducted by Mr-Pandhala Raja, Business Head Bank
Naukri on 28th August for the Il MBA students. He explained about the career opportunities
available in the Banking sector and the expectations in the present scenario,
Guest Lecture on Digital Marketing was conducted by Mr. Arun on 15th September to our
student's. He made the session more interesting by providing information relating to the current
marketing scenario and how digital marketing is becoming a powerful tool. He created
awareness relating to the various digital marketing tools and its scope for students.
Guest Lecture on “Anti-Tobacco Awareness Programme” was conducted by Dr.S.Natarajan,
Cardiology specialist of G.K.N.M Hospital Coimbatore on 22nd September to our students. He
explained about the causes of heart attack, preventive measures to overcome heart disease
and ill effects of tobacco.
Guest Lecture on “Digital Marketing’ for our students was
conducted by Mr.P.Samuel Giftson, Marketing Consultant &
Digital Marketing Trainer on 13th October, 2017. He emphasized
on the importance of Digital marketing and shared his knowledge
with the participants

Out Bound Training at NALS
An outbound training programme was conducted for the | MBA students at NALS ACADEMY,
Coonoor, between 3rd and Sth August, 2017. The training programme focussed on nature trail,
experiential leaming, capturing learning, leadership development, socio-drama and outdoor games.
The students actively participated eagerly in all events and leamed the skills required for a
management graduate.
CEO Talk
Mr.N,GopalaKrishnan, CEO, Velmayil Group of Companies, Coimbatore addressed the students on
22nd August, 2017. Students interacted with the guest regarding his business, market expectations,
success stories and handling of customer queries etc., The interaction helped the students to
understand the nuances of conducting a business. He emphasized on “Managing Customer
Service”, He shared his life experience where he believed in “Effort never fail” and he also added
Resolving Service Breakdown changed his life. The most important lesson which we learnt was

CEO Talk
Mr. Ashish Mehta, Managing Director, Mehta Jewellers, Coimbatore addressed the students on
26th September, 2017. The guest shared his journey as an entrepreneur and his innovativeness
in transferring traditional business into modem one using all the recent trends in the market. In
fact the session was more practical and with many stories on management lessons. He started
the session with story, moral of the story was opportunities knock the door for students only 3
times, grab the best one. We shouldn't waste the time waiting for something more- settle for
less, try for more. The two things that can change anybody life is “Too Early & Too Late” he also
added that budding entrepreneurs should be furious with their competitors that will help them to
grow in market.
Dr. K. Pradeep Kumar, Founder of Elite Group of Companies interacted with the students on Sth
October, 2017. He shared with the students about his company and his NGO unit Elite Circle.
He also briefed about his path to this level from childhood. He advised students to follow the 5
Tonics of Success to become a successful Entrepreneur.

Industrial Visits
Industrial visits aim to enhance and instil practical experience to the students where they get first
hand information and provide a deeper insight regarding the internal workings of the company. Our
students were taken to the following industries to gain practical exposure.
II MBA students had a visit to Rabwin Industries Ltd., Malumichampatty on 28th July,2017, Larsen &
Tourbo Ltd., Malumichampatt, Coimbatore on 16th September, 2017, and to Point Perfect
Technology Solutions, Keeranatham, Coimbatore on 22nd September, 2017,
At Rabwin Industries the students leamt how the machine tools and components manufacturing is
done through CNC machines. The students understood how a production unit is functioning with
numerically controlled machines.
The visit to L&T helped the students in acquiring knowledge in the nature of business, products,
process, and markets of the company. The students also understood the technological
advancement and R&D practices followed in the company to meet the expectation of the customers
to reach its vision.
Thejvisit to PPTS helped the students to interact with MrHarish Raman, the HR manager. He
‘explained the HR policy and procedures followed by the company. He shared the recruitment process
and placement opportunities in the company. He gave an outline on the preparation of resumes,
¥w techniques, techniques of facing interviews and what the expectations of HR managers
his gave better insight to our students in preparing themselves for the placement process.
| MBA students had visited TTK Prestige Ltd., Mayileripalayam, Coimbatore on 19th August, 2017.
The students learned the operations of manufacturing unit practically. The manufacturing process
from raw material stage to finished product stage, cleaning of raw materials before manufacturing,
ales of finished goods after manufacturing, packing process, polishing the goods inside and
side with different machinery and cleaning materials, automated price printing process, inspection
partment for QC check were part of their learning. The managers also shared how they use 4M, 5S

An internship training was conducted for our Logistics students at OM Logistics Pvt. Ltd., Coim-
batore division on 23rd September, 2017. The students learned the activities of OM Logistics.
The students were given inputs on the Warehouse Management system, Packaging Process,
Loading and Unloading procedures, Equipment Handling process, Booking procedures, Tran-
shipment, use of RFID, BAR coding operations, Vehicle Tracking Process, Training process for
employees followed in the company. This programme created a great impact among the
students for having understood and experiencing the scope and functions of logistics in a
pioneering industry.
GST National Seminar
The institute organised a national level seminar on
“Impact of GST in Indian Economy’ on 8th September,
2017. DrJawaharbabu , CAM- Auditor & Insurance
advisor, presented himself with the discussion on
“Introduction & Implication of GST” to the participants
of the seminar. Mr.K.Ramesh, Chartered Accountant
discussed the “Impact of GST in Indian economy”. The
response for the seminar was overwhelming with
students from different institutes participating and
gaining knowledge on GST.

Empressario - ED Fest
The institute organised a two day workshop (12th and 13th of September) on Entrepreneurial Devel-
opment- Empressario the ED fest. First day we had four entrepreneurs sharing their experience with
the participants of the workshop. Mrs.Sudhapurushothaman , President - WOBEDA shared her
organisations contributions in developing women by sharing her experience on “Women Empower-
ment through Entrepreneurship’. Mr.Prabhu Gandhikumar , Director - Gandhikumar Group of com-
panies shared his wide experience on “Entrepreneur's Journey-Lesson learned from Frontlines" with
lot of live examples. Mr.Moosa Kalemullah, Director — Horizon training academy, encouraged the
participants by showing the avenues available for the entrepreneurs on “Export Opportunities for
Entrepreneur's’. Mr.Vipin.A.P, CEO-Founder, Dream Day Designers, explained how he became an
entrepreneur in discussing on "Event Management — An Entrepreneurial Journey’.
The second day witnessed the students organise business stalls and events to exhibit their entrepre-
neurial skills to sell their ideas and products. The event was floored with 25 stalls of various foods,
games, saplings, dresses and accessories of which 10 stalls were from Self Help Group (budding
Entrepreneurs). Customers from SANSAC thronged the stalls and made the event meaningful.

Sankara Institute of Management Science took an initiative to contribute towards reducing global
warming by way of initiating planting of trees in the campus on 27th October, 2017. The Principal,
| the members of Lions Club-Coimbatore, students and the faculty of SIMS planted the saplings which
- included Coconut tree, Neem tree, Mango tree etc to help preserve the soil and retain the moisture

HR Conclave
The institute organized a one day HR Conclave ~"Recent Trends in HR Practices” on 06th Octo-
ber 2017. Dr.Guru Selvaraj DGM-HRIIR, Flow link Systems (P) Ltd shared his experience on
HR operations and stated the Industry expectations from HR managers. The second session
was handled by Mr. .B. Sureshkumar (Senior-HR) from Point Perfect Technology Solutions,
Coimbatore. He discussed the Role of HR’s in Organisational Development and the impact on
organization. He also shared the Recruitment and Selection process followed in IT industry.
The post lunch session was handled by MrKowshik Krishnamoorthy, Business Operations
Manager, Mintly -A unit of HR CUBE LLC, Coimbatore. He shared his views on Myths and Real-
ity in HR Industry. The session was more interactive with participants asking lot of questions. In
fact the speaker kindled the participants to ask questions and made the session interesting.
The final session was a panel discussion. Invited guests and few student participants were the
panel members. The panel discussed the prospects of HR in current Industrial scenario. Delib-
erations were on opportunities available in market for HR, recent trends practised in industry
and its expectation from the students.
In Association with NSS unit of SANSAC & The Eye Foundation, SIMS 1S conducted ant
on 25th September, 2017. Over 400 people participated from Sankara Educational Institutions
and got benefited
Joy of Giving Week (October 2nd — 8th) is an initiative to bring out the inherent goodness in
every individual. As a part of the weeklong celebrations, students were encouraged
contribute something for the welfare of the less privileged. In connection with this, the NSS u
of Sankara College of Science and Commerce, Sankara Institute of Management Studi
Coimbatore Government Hospital and Lions Club of Coimbatore — ELITE jointly organiz
Blood Donation Drive in the premises on 4th October, 2017.

Bhoomimatha day was observed on 31st July, 2017 with a silent prayer , awareness song and selfie
contest.
Floridus - Fresher’s day was celebrated on 24th August 2017. The party and the cultural
programmes was organised by the I! MBA students. | MBA students took part sportively and enthusi-
astically. The event was very colourful and enjoyable.
Onam celebration- “Aarpoo” was celebrated on 31stAugust, 2017. Students of SIMS organised the
event with a pookalam, cultural programmes, games followed by a cultural feast “SADYA" for the
entire team of faculty and students. All the members of SIMS were in the traditional out fits of Kerala
