Socrates = Happiness is fighting against instinct

Using reason to make the right choices. this presumes that you (subconsciously, ‘really’) want to
act another way. Convincing yourself to “do what’s right” for whatever reason (outcome, virtue)
through logical argument, not action that comes naturally. Relying on willpower.

Nietzsche = Happiness is instinct

Happiness is the right action coming naturally (subconscious competence). You do not rely on
internal monologue, willpower, struggle to “do what’s right”. Happiness is proper beliefs.

Actually very similar/even the same. I think you can use reason to shape the unconscious.
Through logical argument with yourself you can figure out whats right, but this isn’t enough.
Next you must internalize these beliefs. Learn from yourself. Truly grow, and use the results of
your conclusions to change who you are, making these internal debates less and less frequent,
and your instincts, stronger. Your subconscious ability to “do what’s right” must get stronger to
find happiness.
