2010

C
IMA have announced changes to their syllabus, with
effect from the May 2010 exams. There are a number
of significant changes including: renaming papers, a
restructure of the entire Managerial level and the introduction
of a new pre-seen at the Strategic level. There is no change to
the Certificate level. These adjustments ensure that CIMA
continues to provide financially qualified business leaders with
broad business and management skills to complement their
financial training.

National CIMA 2010 week

Commencing 27th July 2009.
See back page for more details.
Get READY
with what’s new
All papers and learning pillars have been renamed so
make sure you familiarise yourself with the changes.

Managerial level
• Split into two new levels – Operational and Management.
• Three papers per level.
• Key changes to both content and assessment of papers – you will receive fewer
objective testing questions in the May 2010 exam and more computation with
subsequent discussion based questions.
• You will have to answer all questions on all papers.

Strategic level
• To bring the three papers together, a new pre-seen will be introduced.
• The new pre-seen will include company and industry specific information which
will be relevant to Section A of each paper.
• From May 2010, under Section B, you will have to attempt two questions from a
choice of just three options.

TOPCIMA
You will have to pass the exam and receive approval of your Career Profile to pass
TOPCIMA overall and achieve ACMA status.
SET your goals

Managerial level
After November 2009, all six papers of the Managerial syllabus will
be changing. If you are already studying and are not sure how the 2010
changes will affect you, please read the following tips:

Half way through

If you’ve got less than three papers of the current syllabus left to complete, we
suggest you attempt the exam for all of them this year. You’ll be able to start
studying for the new Strategic level in 2010.

More than three papers to complete

If you’ve more than three papers still to complete, or are not in a position to
complete the Managerial level fully this year, we suggest you complete as many
learning pillars as possible by November 2009:

• Management Accounting Pillar = P1 MAPE + P2 MADM

• Business Management Pillar = P4 OMIS + P5 INTM

• Financial Accounting Pillar = P7 FATP + P8 FANA

If you have not yet started P7 or P8 and are looking to commence the Financial
Accounting pillar you should take the P7 exam in November 2009 - this paper has
an excellent pass rate.

If you are just starting and have no exemptions

Begin your studies with P1 MAPE and P4 OMIS. We know that P4 has an excellent
pass rate and P1 is changing significantly in the new syllabus, so we advise you to
complete as much as you can now before the changes come in.
Strategic level
November 2009 is the last sitting of the Strategic level in the current syllabus.
Don’t forget you need to pass all three papers to successfully complete this level.
If you are already studying and are not sure how the 2010 changes will affect you,
you may find the following tips helpful:

Just starting
Aim to sit the exam in November 2009 and upon successful completion you’ll be
able to complete the final leg of your CIMA journey by sitting TOPCIMA in March/
May 2010 under the new syllabus.

Having another go
As you’re already familiar with the papers it makes sense to sit the
exam in November 2009 as you stand a much greater chance of
passing. If your November 2009 exams do not go according
to plan then don’t worry. Under the new syllabus in 2010
you will not be required to sit papers that you have
already received a credit in.

TOPCIMA
If you are already studying TOPCIMA,
continue as normal and aim to sit the exam
in September/November 2009.
