Transferring a KEPServerEX v5 Software License

Transferring a software license banks an activated license back to Kepware, allowing it to be moved from one PC to another or
stored for later use in your My Kepware account. Once a license transfer request is created, the license that the transfer
request was created for will no longer be available for use on that PC. The transfer request file must be processed through the
My Kepware portal to bank the license with Kepware. Once a license is banked it may be re-deployed at any time.

To transfer a software license perform the following steps.

1. Open the License Utility, Select Manage Software Licenses from the drop down list, and then click Next.

Note: The license utility can be opened from the start menu or by right clicking on the green and black EX icon in the system
tray and selecting License Utility.

The default start menu path is Start|Programs|Kepware|KEPServerEX 5|License|License Utility.

2. Select Transfer a product activation, and then click Next.

3. Select the Product Activation to be Transferred from the drop down list, and then click the Save to File button.

4. The License Utility will display a file Save As dialog, allowing you to save the generated transfer request file. Save the
transfer request file, making note of its location as it will be sent to the Kepware's licensing portal in the next step.

Note: The default filename for the transfer request file is transfer_request.txt. You may rename this to anything you like.
Renaming can make it easier to manage your license transfers, especially if you are transferring more then one product at one
time.
5. Under License Management Tools in the My Kepware portal, click on the Activation Transfer Utility link. Browse to the
trasnfer request file saved in Step 4 and click the Process Transfer Request button. Kepware will process the transfer
request file and display a message indicating that the license has been successfully banked. The product transferred will now
be available for activation on another PC.
