‘Amendments
‘Compared with the November 1975 edition, the following amendments have been made:
1) An example of designation for parallel internal pipe thread symbolized by Rp has been included, see Explanatory
notes.
'b) Table 1 has been extended to cover internal threads (column 2).
<) In table 3, symbol R for parallel internal threads has been changed into Rp.
Explanatory notes
“This standard agrees in substance with International Standard ISO 7/1 — 1982 “Pipe threads wi
‘are made on the threads”.
In addition to the parallel internal thread, 1SO 7/1 ~ 1982 specifies the taper internal thread as an alternative to match
the taper external thread. As the taper external thread has, however, hardly ever been used in Germany, there is no
intention to include it in the appropriate DIN Standard. Thus ISO 7/1 was not adopted as a DIN ISO Standard. Moreover,
‘the number of the standard has deliberately been left unchanged, because neither the industry nor the plumbing trade
‘would have approved of such an alteration.
Standard ISO 7/1 gives the following designations for a thread:
ressure-tight joints
parallel Pipe thread ISO 7/1-Ap 1%
Internal thread
taper Pipe thread ISO 7/1-Re 1%
External thread always taper Pipe thread ISO 7/1-R 1%
‘The previous editions of DIN 2999 Part 1, November 1975 edition, did not differentiate between taper internal threads
‘and parallel internal threads, which was not necessary, as the standard did not specify taper internal threads and the
DIN number served to distinguish between the taper thread and the parallel pipe thread specified in DIN 259 Part 1.
‘Since the thread symbols given in DIN 269 Part 1 and DIN 2999 Part 1 are identical, however, confusion arose partic:
tlarly when marking serew taps, a, in order to save space and costs, only the thread symbol was used (omitting the DIN
umber).
|In order to prevent such a confusion for the future, the technical committees concerned decided to lay down letter
‘symbol Rp for the identification of the parallel internal thread, in agreement with tO 7/1
